Titleist Readies 735, 660 for Release

The 735 and the 660 – you’ve never heard of these clubs before, have you? Well, they’re coming and they’re from Titleist. The Sand Trap has the scoop.

Adam Barr noted on Golf Central a few days ago that players on the driving range at the TPC at Sawgrass were playing some new Titleist equipment: the 660, the 735, and the well-known 904F.

The 904F, Titleist’s new fairway metal, we all know about. The 660 and the 735 are relatively new, and we’ve got a little information for you…

The 660 is a bore-through muscle-back blade design that Adam Scott and Ernie Els have toyed with in the past few weeks. Whether the bore-through design is meant to increase feel or to move more weight away from the hosel to increase playability – or both – remains to be seen. The 660s are not replacements for the rumored “695” bore-through muscle backs. Titleist currently also has the 670, 680, and 690 in muscle back clubs, and the 660 fits right in line with that numbering scheme.

You can clearly see the bore-through hosel on these Titleist 660s.

The 735, or “735.CM” for “combo” or perhaps “cavity muscle” – is just that: a combo set that features cavity-back-like long irons and blade-like short irons, progressively changing from one extreme to the other throughout the set. The iron currently features a hammer and anvil stamp, implying that the club will be forged and not cast. Many in the industry believed Titleist would not come out with a combo set (largely due to their statement “we will never come out with a combo set” <grin>), but are excited that Titleist seems to have changed its mind. Several tour players use the 735 currently, and the clubs are expected to ship in late May or early June.

There’s a good chance both will be available in left-handed versions as Titleist CEO Wally Uihlein is himself a lefty.

  1. Titleist always makes clubs that look and feel good. It’s always surprising how much affect the look of a club has on a person’s ability to hit it. For me, if the look isn’t appealing to my eye, I won’t even try it.

  2. Does anyone know whether these clubs will have any offset? I wonder if these clubs would fall closer to the 690’s than the 704’s in terms of easy to hit???

  3. Just picked up a set of 660’s today. They are nice – just fell into them – no offset – nice smooth lines – will hit them tomorrow – eat your hearts out

  4. Reagarding the 735-CM, I was just at the Nationwide Tour’s stop in Richmond, Va this past weekend–the Henrico County Open–and observed a young player named Scott Weatherly (-10, T-36) who was dresses head-to-toe in Titleist/FJ. I got a good look in his bag and lo-and-behold there was a set of 735 CMs. I had never seen them or even heard of them before, so I did a quick google to learn more. The Titleist site, true to form, was mum, but Google took me to The Sand Trap! I am looking forward to enjoying this site.

  5. i have now titleist 731pm and these tools are so , so good that words are not needed.

But i will be going to buy another iron set from titleist =BECAUSE THEY ARE THE BEST THINGS WHAT YOU CAN BUY. My all clubs are titleist clubs 983-K,980Fspoon,vokey wedges so why even think another!!!

  6. do you have any pics of the titleist 695 and the 660? Also are they any good and what are better!

  7. Just bought 735cm being using same clubs for 22 years Blades and these are street ahead so easy to hit and shape.

  8. I’m a 7 handicapper and been playing golf for over 40 yrs. I have gone through countless sets of blade irons from various manufacturers and believe me these Titleist 660 blades are simply the best. Not only they hit longer but easier to control especially long irons. Highly recommended.

  9. without doubt the 660 irons are one of the purest blades out in the market today . sad no one has an idea they ever existed . for mid to low to scratch golfers these are just the clubs your golf doctor would prescribe to bring your game to the ultimate level . marry these to project x shafts 7.0( tour stiff ) you can consider going one on one … mano y mano with the very best player in your group and come out a winner . wish my wife would buy me these …. 😥

  10. I have tried all kind of blades from Mizuno MP 32 and 67, Cleveland TA1 and CG1, I have even tried Titliest 690 blades and was getting tired of the trajectory with the aforementioned irons.. I picked up a used set of Titliest 660 and was impressed by the trajectory control and performance. I have increased a club length with this set. I now hit my pitching wedge close to 130 Vs 120… Very good trajectory to any blade in the Titleist line-up in my opinion. Highly reccomend this set. 👿
