NCAA Division I Men’s Championship Preview

The Division I Men's NCAA Golf Championship starts today, and it's time for a few predictions. The event will be played at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. There were three separate regionals a couple weeks back, and the top 10 teams from each advanced to the NCAA Championship. In addition, six individual golfers (their teams didn't advance) will be battling the rest of the field for individual supremacy.

The Ping/Golfweek Preview is in the books, and that means college golf is officially in full swing. Congratulations are in order for the Florida Gators for winning the team portion. Billy Horschel, a Florida Gator sophomore, shot a final-round 63 to take home the individual honors as well. There goes my original prediction of Florida being young and untested.

The Ping/Golfweek Preview was the biggest tournament so far this season, but it wasn't the only one. Southern California won the Inverness Intercollegiate tournament in mid-September, Alabama won the Carpet Capital Challenge, and Duke won the Fighting Illini Classic in impressive fashion.

2006-2007 College Golf Preview

Most of the professional tours are starting to wrap up their respective seasons. The college golf season, on the other hand, has just begun. Last season's national champion was crowned just a few months ago, and it's time to get it started again. Between now and next June, the top programs in the country will fight it out for supremacy.

The Sand Trap will be covering college golf from now on, and rightfully so. Many of the world's best, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Jim Furyk, made their way through the college ranks before striking it rich at the professional level.

There is no better way to get the ball rolling than a season preview. I've put together my top-20 rankings, as well as my prediction for national player of the year, freshman of the year, and national champion. Sit tight and enjoy.
