Red-hot Dustin Johnson wins in Mexico.
Welcome back to Hittin’ the Links! Dustin Johnson captured his 14th PGA Tour win this week, achieving victory at the WGC-Mexico Championship. He widened his lead atop the Official World Golf Rankings, and is now the odds-on favorite to win the Masters.
We’ll also check in with the winners in Europe and Singapore, and say hello to the retired Lorena Ochoa and the might-as-well-be-retired Tiger Woods. All that, plus a crash course on the new proposed Rules of Golf.

After collaborating with Hank Haney, Callaway engineers have created a new wedge that make green side shots easy to play.
If you had to pick one thing that Callaway Golf is known for, it would have to be their woods. With a product line like the Big Bertha, that should come as no surprise. However, one underrated aspect of the Callaway lineup, at least in my opinion, are their wedges. I’ve been a fan of their wedges going back to the X-Forged with the original Mack Daddy Grooves, and I am currently on my second set of the Mack Daddy 2 wedges. When you have somebody like Roger Cleveland at the helm of your wedge department, good things come.
For their newest wedges, however, Callaway has mixed things up. With the new Sure Out wedge, Callaway collaborated with renowned golf instructor and former Tiger Woods swing coach, Hank Haney. The goal of the Sure Out wedge, as you may figure out by the name, is helping players get out of the sand and other less than ideal situations on the course. Rickie Fowler picks up some serious hardware.
Welcome all to another week of Hittin’ the Links. Down in Florida, Rickie Fowler took home some serious hardware with a four-shot Honda Classic victory over Hoffman and Woodland. He held a sizable lead throughout most of his final round despite a few hiccups.
We’ll also check in on the PGA Tour’s first trip south of the border for the
WGC-Mexico Open – who’s in, who’s out, and what the players who do show will be up against. All that, plus a look at some old shoes, more Rory McIlroy news, and what Pat Perez said that got Tiger fans upset.

I drive a hybrid car, and I can tell you that while the mileage is excellent, the trunk space sucks. When heading for the golf course, if it’s more than just me playing, it’s going to be a tough fit. I can get two carry bags in the trunk and possibly wedge in a push cart. If two of us have carts, one bag is going to wind up on the backseat, maybe both.
So when I got the opportunity to try out the Big Max Autofold FF, I jumped at the chance. If any cart could fold as flat as the Autofold promised, it would go a long way toward solving to my trunk dilemma.

Dustin Johnson, ladies and gentlemen, is your 2017 Genesis Open Champion. The victory was Johnson’s 13th on Tour, and was secured with a stellar 64 on Saturday that let Johnson cruise to victory. Thomas Pieters, whom we’ll hear from a bit later, and Scott Brown finished five shots back.
We’ll also take a look at Augusta National’s azalea bushes, check in on the upcoming WGC-Mexico Championship, and show you exactly why only Phil Mickelson is Phil Mickelson.

Sergio and Matsuyama win, Tiger Drops out, and Jordan releases some new kicks.
While most of the country was watching the Super Bowl, there was a bit of golf going on this weekend. Stateside, Hideki Matsuyama won his second consecutive Phoenix Open in a playoff over Webb Simpson, dispatching the U.S. Open champ after four playoff holes. Across the pond in the U.A.E., Sergio Garcia captured his 12th career European Tour victory, going wire-to-wire in Dubai. Among the field of vanquished competitors was Tiger Woods, who dropped out before the second round with back spasms.
We’ll take a look at all of that plus an update from he USGA, a check-in on Nike Golf, and a stroll through the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale.

It was an exciting week out on Tour, as Tiger Woods returned to his first full-field event in a year and a half, Jon Rahm picked up his first PGA Tour win, and Brittany Lincicome outlasted Lexi Thompson in the Bahamas.

Callaway’s latest driver introduces Jailbreak technology that should add some speed off the face.
Jailbreak technology. Sounds evil. Sounds non-conforming. Well, Callaway has been working on the new technology for some time now and were able to get their newest driver, the Great Big Bertha Epic, on the USGA’s conforming list.
With the promise of extra ball speed off the face of the club, the Epic ma be the most anticipated driver of 2017. It certainly created a lot of buzz in December and early January. Callaway’s newest release promises to bring groundbreaking technology that will have you hitting the ball further than ever before.
A few years back, Callaway made waves in the golf equipment industry when they relaunched one of the more famed lines in their history, the Big Bertha. Since that time, the line has seen yearly updates with new technology coming along the way. The Big Bertha 816 and Big Bertha 816 Double Black Diamond were particularly well received. That being said, since the original relaunch, I would say it fair to call the updates evolutionary, meaning that while they did improve over their predecessors there was nothing that you would necessarily call groundbreaking. With this release, however, Callaway is touting the new Epic line as a huge release with major new technology. When I said earlier that the prior updates to the Big Bertha were simply evolutionary, that was not meant as a knock against Callaway. At this point, with the restrictions from golf’s governing bodies on technology, there is only so much you can do and still produce a conforming club. With the new Epic drivers, there are four key technologies at play; some which we have seen before and others which are brand new. Both the Epic and Epic Sub Zero will have the ability to tweak the clubs weight; on the standard Epic this is done through the use of a sliding weight, while the Sub Zero version uses interchangeable weights. Both clubs also feature the new Jailbreak technology along with Speed Step and Triaxial Carbon and Titanium Exo-Cage technology.
