On the Ball with Common Sense

The distance debate rages on, but at least one voice of common sense has poked their head through the clouds.

GolfObserver has an article worth reading:

It’s not just about the ball. It’s about players who have pushed themselves farther than technology has taken equipment. It’s about the endless hours in the weight room, long runs and stretching. About balance in your diet. About a new generation of focus that’s often hard to fathom.

Right on.

  1. Hi Erik
OK so I took your advice and read it and whilst agreeing with the majority of the comments e.g. increased fitness as a major factor and that a Hogan would win in any era.
The lady does not address the matter that technology. And the blatter it a long way and better to chip from the rough than hit a 6 iron from the middle of the fairway mentality is devaluing shotmaking skills.
OK so Tiger hits some tidy shots from terrible lies. Kinda exciting but nothing compared to watching a whole host of wannabee Tigers playing exquisite shots.
And could be that with a veritable feast of shotmaking on the telly, the golf commentators may just provide us with more intelligent comments.
