I've used the Birdieball since John Breaker introduced it in '03. I've hit the Birdieball with everything from a wedge to fairway woods, and definitely believe that it's the coolest training aid that's out there. I can fade, draw and even whiff the shot! it provides instant feedback the second it comes off the clubface, just like a real ball would. Plus, it only travels 40-50 yards (the farthest I've hit one, with a 3 wood, is about 55 yards), so they're easy to retrieve. I would suggest buying a couple dozen, head to the nearest park or athletic field, and have a great time!

[...] Depending on your space and budget, there are many different sizes and styles of nets one can get. Izzo is one such manufacturer that makes nets that you can use year around. Of course, you also need practice golf balls to hit and two options are the Birdie Ball which we reviewed this spring and the Almost Golf Ball. Both provide a limited flight and give you something not available in previous practice balls, feel like a real golf ball. [...]

Sounds like an interesting practice aid. I've been using the "<a href="http://www.almostgolfball.com/" rel="nofollow">Almost Golf Ball</a>" for a year now. I think this training aid is definitely better than the foam or plastic training balls because it feels like a real golf ball (weighs about 1/4 of a real golf ball). I've been using them indoors off of a mat hitting into a bucket/towel. The thing I like about the almostgolfball is that it doesn't leave marks on the wall. I think David Pelz also sells this product (or one that is similar) and says that you can't break things (he demonstrated by hitting a shot into a wall).

I think I'll try out the birdie ball and compare it with the almostgolfball to see which I like better. Should be an interesting comparison.

I think BirdieBall is a cool product, too. I've been using them to hit wedges in my yard, and even my kids get a kick out of swatting them around. I have lost one, though: I decided to see how far I could hit one with my 7-iron and it sailed into my neighbor's yard, where his dog grabbed it and hid it!

Other than my stupidity, this could be a cool practice aid.
