Just wanted to say thanks for this review. Bought a 10.5 online with an Alpha Platinum R shaft, and took it to the range last week.

I had really lofty expectations of 300 yard drives. I can't say that they were met, but my drives were definitely longer. I was around 250 with my Ping G5. And I was about 260, maybe 270 with the Alpha.

So while it was an improvement, you won't magically drive 300-yard bombs with it.

Just bought an Alpha C830.2 on ebay with a garman 540 xstiff shaft...got it yesterday and took it to the range right away. Went from hitting my Wilson Deep Red 280 consistantly to blowing past it on the fly with the crappy range balls in the world (and I mean that quite literally, some had square dimples) in to a stiff wind. I couldn't be happier with taking a club out of a box and first swing corkin' it 300 on the fly in to a stiff wind. Very pleased and highly recommend this driver with an xs shaft for anyone who wants to get huge and start competing! Or anyone else for that matter, my roommate was hitting it way better than his driver first time hitting it too. Gotta love it!

this is one mean driver. my Alpha 7.5 degree 830.2 plasma with a JLG ultra boom xx (from ebay)is a monster. 300 on range balls and 300+ with quality balls. for a 5'6 175lbs. dude, that seems good to me. ball flies as straight as my take back, down swing and proper grip allows. my other driver which is a $39.00 sports authority wilson gets 250 -275 on rangs balls. love my alpha!

Aloha.

:
razz: I have owned the Alpha 830.2 10.5 deg driver for some months. Bought it off ebay and tried it for a couple of games. It came with a "Limey" shaft, and it seemed to go ok but not good enought to take the R5 TP out of the bag.
I had a NVG2 with a Fuji Z Com MW54 S shaft, so yesterday took that shaft out and put it into the Alpha.
Now what a club!. Very smooth, very straight, and a great "feel".
The flight was not high, but with the ball speed it did not matter as it still carried, and despite the wet ground, (ten days of rain!),it still outdistanced the R5.
The shaft was cut to 44.5 inches, and this may have contributed to the control. I hit 2 drives on one hole that finished 2 feet apart.
The square face allows you to swing hard and turn the club over .
I know the shaft is good but this combination is VERY good!.
May well it continue.

i own the alpha rx responce 460cc 9.0 driver and could not be happier. to be honest i have only ever tried one other driver that being the cleverland hibore and i can tell you the alpha driver was about 10 meters longer. I can say with confidence these drivers are VERY VERY LONG!

Alpha has jumped into the hybrid market with two offerings. As a small golf club company in a big company market, Alpha has developed quality clubs for years. The RX and V5 Hi-COR hybrids continue that trend.

The first podcast talks about Jean Van de Velde's plans to play the Women's British Open, compares Tiger's year to Annika's year, and much, much more. Tune in!
