I am lucky enough to live in paradise, aka Santa Barbara, CA, so I can play golf all year round. The problem is the snowbirds who come to stay for the winter. They take over all the golf courses, and so while I could play, I cannot get a tee-time. And if I did get a tee-time - it takes six hours to play.

If only I could afford a private golf course membership - then I could play all year round!

I was born and raised in Florida and now live in Michigan. I'm getting reading for my third winter up here in the frozen wasteland so I know how you feel. After hacking at the ball for 20+ years I finally got serious this summer and started taking lessons. It's been a great summer. The one thing I am looking forward to this winter is the ability to strictly work on my swing without the distraction of actually playing. We have some great facilities here to practice all season. The main range I go to has huge heaters in each stall so you can hit even while it's snowing. We also have several indoor facilities with 150 yard max length. So while the 6 months of winter will suck, I am looking forward to seeing how much I improve come spring.

last winter we were tortured by the weather. it peaked into the high 50's in February/March and all the snow melted for a week and a half but then proceeded to blizzard until easter. but lets hope for a very mild winter. (prbly the only time i would like global warming to be true) :P

JP,

you got it. this area of vermont is referred to as the "northeast kingdom." winter can set in very early. it is beautiful here but the golf season is just too short. good luck in NJ, and heck, south carolina ain't that far away, is it?

Hey bloodinvt:

I'm in northern NJ. We've got several good weeks left probably, but you never know. I grew up here and moved away as an adult; as a kid I remember a few snowstorms around my birthday (early November).

You must be in northern Vermont?

Thanks for reading!

man, i feel your pain. i don't know where you are, but here, just south of the border, no, not that border, things are winding down faster than...well, fast. i will say, the weather this fall, up till now, has been superb, and last year we were able to go out and play some holes (no putting, though) well into december. the fact remains that the end of this season is only a few weeks away. fortunately, if all goes according to plan, this is my last winter here on the frozen tundra, and from next year forward, it will be year round golf. keeping my fingers crossed.
