I would like to find out the difference between a swinger and a hitter. What is your approach? Which is better?

I'm gonna say that I "swing" and trust that you all understand that we're talking about golf here. :-)
Anyway, I swing, and the ball gets in the way.
The only time I'll really try to "hit" the ball is when it's buried pretty deep in the rough and I want to expend all of my energy right at the point of contact, direction be damned (a little). And even then I'm really thinking more "punch" than "hit" because I always learned to punch "through" the target (someone's nose, the ball, whatever). So even then I'm still thinking of the ball getting in the way more than "hitting" it.

I've been playing cricket for more than 20 years now and so I started out as a hitter. I used to really try and muscle that right hand through and had the classic reverse pivot.
A few lessons in and I am starting to wash away the last vestiges of my old swing and am turning into a swinger. I'm amazed at the difference it makes. I am able to put a lot more on the ball with a lot less effort and less likely to block myself.
I'm gunna break 90 any day now I reckon.
