I think these clubs are made by Hippo but they are known simply as JD 500. Thats John Daly. They were on sale at Big 5 sports this summer. I bought them so I wouldn't have to use my father-in-laws mis-matched set anymore.

That is a bummer man. Makes it tough.
I have problems with those really big mallets. Mental block or something. I play a mallet, a smaller one, can't think of the name at the moment, but I think I'm going back to a blade. I'm just not sinking putts right now. Of course I know I need the practice, but I set up a mental block. Nasty thing, the mind, isnt' it?

Well I got my "precious" Mezza Monza Center Shaft putter for Christmas and after a little work on the carpet started hitting a quarter on the carpet at about 8 feet fairly regularly. Well, now I notice a tendancy for me to open the clubface on the backswing and the grip is too small... smaller than I'm used to. Anyway, I think my hopes were a little too high for this putter. Part of me is reluctant to take it out to the course and scuff it up.
I had gotten fairly accurate with an old Titleist sp-203 my father-in-law passed on to me. Anyway... I'll quit complaining now.

The small grip may suit you. For me, the way it goes is this: big grip encourages a wristless stroke, but a small grip produces more feel as I grip it more in the fingertips. I use a smallish grip now and have simply developed a stroke without wrist hinge, so I have "gained" feel.
Lots of the good putters putt with the "door on a hinge" stroke: open clubface going back, close it going through. Keeping the putter perfectly square all the way back and through requires some weird manipulation of your wrists, turning them in and out. Even Pelz's "square the entire time" stroke opens and closes slightly.

Thanks for the heads up on proper stroke and the info about grip size reletive to feel. That is good to know. We'll see how it turns out. I'm going to spend a lot more time on the carpet before I make a final decision. Price wise Odyssey's White Hot series looks good. They have some nice looking putters. I'd buy about ten right now if I could afford it. Money keeps me from Ho'in clubs too much.

Congrat's on the new putter, it's always fun to play with new equipment.
I used to use a white hot 2 ball, and I liked it, but it's not great from long distances b/c of the softness of the insert. Perhaps they fixed things with their new white steel line but I think there's better models out there for much cheaper.
Take a look at Cleveland's (http://www.tgw.com/customer/category/product.jsp?SUBCATEGORY_ID=2641) classic putter series (about $50), and Ping's G2 Anser (http://www.pinggolf.com/products_putters_g2.html). Just about every steel blade putter on the market today is a ripoff of the Anser.
Bottom line is: putting's all about confidience so keep trying different putters until you find one that makes you feel like you'll drain every putt you step up to.

Good advice. After using the Mezza Monza I realize I like a simpler looking putter head. Nothing fancy. I get really distracted by a big putter head. I've looked at Ping's G2 series putters and they look really nice plus have great prices even new. The B60 was appealing to me but I'll just have to get out and try them at one of the local shops.
Ping wasn't a company that ever appealed to me probably because of the unusaul look of their irons but the more I read about them the more I like.
I like the feeling a putter without the insert provides like you described above. It seems like I judge distances better without the insert. Plus I play with a fairly soft ball. I find that an insert on a soft ball doesn't transmit the feeling I like. The search continues.

I am using the same set I started with 2 years ago:
Tommy Armour 845s Oversize Plus 3~SW

i forget the details of mine, but my driver is a knight, 10.5*, chipped paint, but its got a bubble shaft; the best feeling driver i've ever felt (I've only tested a few though, so that may not mean much)... 3 and 5 woods, some sort of wilson... irons, AGS widebody II, 3-pw minus the 8.... and an upswing putter
this is the first set i've ever bought, and i've had them for less than a week.. paid $80 for them from a guy that i played golf with a couple of weeks ago... any opinions whatsoever on this set?

I love everything in my bag, but I feel a new set of (custom-fitted) irons next year. Pretty sure I need something bent upright (I'm around 6' but my arms are kinda long for my height) and much larger grips (I have pretty big hands). I may just have the TA1's manipulated because I really like the non-chrome finish but it's probably worthwhile to go hit some others.

My Bag and Contents are much too good for how i play golf. Im actually waiting for one of the companies to turn up to the golf course one day and sue me for making them look bad.. Anyway(this is everything i currently own, starting to figure out i like buying golf stuff a bit too much. Some of this stuff gets used rarely)

Miscellaneous: Mizuno MP-37 Pitching Wedge (courtesy of eBay)
Taylormade R7 TP 6 iron TT S300 (again courtesy of eBay)
(i Pretty much got these 2 with the mentality that if i can hit these the Callaway's will be easier, i hit the R7 ok but the pitching wedge is something different all together)
Wow took up way too much space. End of pointless rant.
Thanks for reading dont blame you if you didnt.

3 Wood ... Mizuno has good woods for your game . Taylormade burner woods also do their thing . Titleist has outstanding woods as per golfing mag reviews for 07 . I love Mizuno woods . Heavy heads , curve face for easy ball launch . Grip down an inch for better control .
