Intersted in a 3 wood and a 5 wood. I rarely hit mine well, and when i do they barely get off the ground and don't go as far as I would like. Any suggestions out there?

I just picked up a Mizuno F-50 3-wood with a stock stiff shaft. Great club. Very easy to hit off of the deck, and you can absolutely kill it off of the tee. Highly recommend it. I was playing a titleist strong 904f with a steel shaft, and I honestly think I am just as long (if not longer) with the F-50 at 15 degrees. And let me stress, again...very easy to hit it off of the deck.

Also of note, I believe the sole design of the F-50 is very similar to the design of Mizuno's hybrid, the CLK Fli-Hi. I don't own one of the hybrids, but I've heard very good things and I plan to get one down the line. I am hoping there is some type of efficiency gain in playing both due to the common sole design. Just FYI.

Oh yeah, I've got to add this point as well. This club is super-durable! I guess it is the composite face, but I think it is almost impossible to scuff the face/sole. For instance, I once tossed it it 15ft in the air when I released on a sloppy follow through and had it come down directly on a jagged, monster rock that was conveniently located nearby. Not a single scratch. Of course, the 20 seconds between seeing the club hit that rock (on the first 18 holes I ever played it) and realizing that it was not chipped or scratched were the longest 20 seconds of my short life. Lol.

Bought it for $179 new at GolfSmith. It's actually the first new club I've ever bought. You can pick up one from GlobalGolf.com for much less.

See here http://www.globalgolf.com/Product/GolfClub/-/pid--1001322/fairway-wood/mizuno/f50.aspx?gd=3&mid=4

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Rob

Ps, You can't go wrong with a 904f, either;)

I was just in a similar situation. I had an old Titleist 980F 15 degree that I would never hit. I talked extensively with the pro at my home course and he couldn't stop talking about taylormade. He let me take out his r7 TP 3-wood at least 5 times on the course, and I used it just about every warm up on the range. It is a fantastic club. In efforts to save some dough, I ended up going with the r7 steel, instead of the tp.

the steel (with graphite shaft) just dropped at any local golf store to 179.99. Ebay of course will have a better deal somewhere.

The ball flies off of the face. With a good swing, you will strike it well. If you want a bigger club head to use off the tee more often, take a look at the titanium, or the burner fairway.

The pro was pushing taylormade, and it was worth listening to for me.

I see that you list a 25 handicapp and are having trouble getting airborn. I would suugest the Clevelaand launchers. pretty easy to hit and not painfulll when his hit. A bunch of the other brands make great ones as well. I'm also a big fan of the Titleists but if you mis it's ugly.

I went to Golfsmith yesterday and tried out a Cleveland Launcher 3 wood. These are discontinued and the price has dropped to $99.99. It was really easy to hit and I had no trouble getting a good launch angle (and I'm not a good golfer). I'm not sure how easy it would be to find one in stock somewhere, but you should check them out. I think they've been replaced with the HiBore woods.

www.golfdiscount.com had a good selection of the Cleveland Launcher fairway woods in stock this morning. I ordered a 3 wood and a Launcher 460Ti driver for my birthday. B-)

I've have to add one to the Mizuno F-50 (5W steel shaft, 18 degree I think?). Tried it on a lunch monitor the other day and loved it. As roverT7 said it's super easy to hit off the deck. Very nice traditional looking fairway wood. Used to have an old Callaway Steelhead Plus, and this club really reminds me of it.

I was looking for a hybrid that'd get me 215-220 yards of carry, wanted a steel shaft, but golftown didn't have a whole lot of options so I picked up some fairway woods just for comparison to go along with the Titleist 585-H 21 degree and Callaway X Hybrid 18 degree.

So just for comparison I was hitting the 21 degree Titleist around the 215-220 yard (carry), the 18 degree Callaway about 240ish and the 5W off the deck around 250 yards. So it's pretty much there as expected with distance.

Having said all that about the F-50, I'd also recommend you try some hybrids. A mate of mine who normally hates hitting fairway woods, loves the hybrids, the flatter iron like face gives him lots more confidence. You also hit a hybrid more like a 5-6 iron which helps, well that's what I'm doing and I'm getting god results.

I went with the Titleist, which surprised me a bit as I never really had great results with their drivers. I was always a bit of a Callaway man with woods.

I've tried a TON of different 3 woods and 5 woods for my skill level, which you are around mine (or when I bought my woods.)

My dad has the 3/5 F-Speed Cobra's. I find these INCREDIBLEY hard to hit for my skill level. I serously can't get them off the ground much, it's a low stinger when I make good contact. I also tried the Cleveland Launcher Comp - Solid club, not real hard to hit, but it's too light for me.

What I found is this: The Bobby Jones 3 and 5 woods are awesome. I love these clubs. The grips, the shaft, and specifically the head are awesome. The head has a real shallow face on it, and I love it. Try it man, you'll like it.

After a long search for a 3 wood (never have owned one), I picked up a Ping G5 3 wood stiff flex Graffaloy Pro Launch. I was amazed. I went out to the range and was CONSISTENTLY making great contact and getting that ball in the air. Carrying at least 200 yards and rolling maybe 20 to 30 more. Great club. Im still having a bit of a fade/slice problem, but its totally my swing right now, not the club. Quite easy to hit and for $219, not a bad price in my opinion. I was scared of 3 woods, they intimidated me. Not this club...I love it! Good luck with the search!

The Ping G5 series is great IMO. From the driver, to the hybrid, to the putter, I really like their clubs.B-)

Not to jack this thread or anything, but it might help the thread starter out as well...but, CG031: How do you like your hybrid? I have been wanting something to replace my 3/4 iron out of the rough and I love the looks of the G5 hybrids. I got the 3 wood for the fairway, tee, and LIGHT rough, but for a recovery shot out of longer rough, I cant hit my 3/4 iron for beans. Hows that club?

I love my hybrid. I find I use it all the time - at least 8 or 9 times per round surprisingly. I'd suggest it, can't go wrong with it at all.
