Hi All! I need help badly!
Have been playing nearly two years and have taken 12 lessons so far. I started out with a pretty strong grip and did ok if not consistant. Then, this spring I started duckhooking everything. I went to another coach who put me into a neutral grip saying that now I would be able to extend and release the club better. I think it cured my duckhooking but now I am hitting it way too close to the hosel. In fact I am doing the S----k! Can't hit a wedge to save myself. Nothing seems to help me hit it in the center of the club. Can anybody help me out? Regards, Ron

hi olduffer,
one major cause of the "S" word or sockets, is your path approaching the ball is too flat and from the inside. If you're anything like me, 5' 8" and roundish, you probably tend to swing around your body and not on plane. Keeping the club on the correct plane is hard to do. Try this, when you take the club back, don't let your hips turn so much. Let your shoulders turn, but try to restrict the hips. The hips, I believe are the foundation of the swing. By over turning the hips you pull the club to the inside and off plane. Once that is done the only two things you can do on your downswing is loop it over the top for the slice or flatten out for the snap draw. If you want, check out my link. It has some pictures of how to keep the club on plane.
Let me know if it helps,
Dan

I was fighting the "S" word a few weeks ago because I swinging far too much from the inside/out. I was just opening that blade up every time and it was shooting straight right. That is a sorry feeling in golf...
I just concentrated on really taking the club straight back instead of "Jim Furyk" like. He can get away with that, but I obviously couldn't.
I need some help on the possible duck hook as well. I can hit a steel shafted driver, but I stink with a graphite shaft.

There are a number of ways to fix the ol' hosel rocket. My own personal list is:
Address the ball off the heel (yes, off the hosel)
Stand taller to the ball at address
Concentrate on getting your hips and lower body through the shot a bit earlier
Keep the head behind the ball
That's my list. Yours might vary...

Thanks Eric. As soon as the rain stopps I'll give it a go! I really appreciate any help I can get. Never realized that the S----s could be so debilitating!

Thanks for the help. I have been trying to go straight back but maybe I'm not doing what I think I am? Make sense? Wish I could see myself in slo mo on video!
I cured my duckhooking but taking a more neutral grip. Felt weird but did help that . Now, with the shanks, I don't know what to think about anything. I'm scared to even swing!

Dan, I 'll sure try your recommendations. Right now I'm scared to death to even swing at the ball except on the range where I don't have to worry about finding it!
I'll let you know how things turn out.
