Default Ryder Cup 2008 - A rout? - April 24th, 2008

This year with Tiger's brilliant run so far and taking into account the performances of the Americans vs the Europeans, Europe will be routed.
.

Just cannot see people like Sergio or Casey stepping it up.
America by the length of the home stretch.

Of course, I value your thoughts on the subject.

Well, its about time the Americans stepped it up, because the Euros have beaten them convincingly in every event since Brookline in 1999. The Euros remember how they were treated at this event and every time the Ryder Cup comes round, they make a point of kickin' Uncle Sam's buttocks on the golf course.

Anyway, what makes you think the US will do well in this event?. Their top 2 players, TW and Phil, are frequently played together and don't like each other very much, and the tactics employed by the US captains have been flawed in terms of pairings in recent events. At least they have a captain this time in Paul Azinger who can play a bit and has interpersonal skills. Hal Sutton's appointment was the worst ever. Im not anti American but i have found the American teams in the past to be rather arrogant to be polite about the matter.

I think a lot has changed since the Presidents cup. Just you wait till the first time an American side with Tiger and Phil winning. You can kiss that cup goodbye for a long long time...again.

Aren't we jumping the gun? I mean, both teams have not been selected. The last Ryder Cup saw the Americans lose 9 out of 12 Single Matches, generally, a strength. As for Sergio and Casey not stepping up, c'mon, be serious. Casey won two events and halved two others. He did not lose. Sergio was 4 and 1. His overall record is 14-4-2. He thrives on Ryder Cup.

Until both teams are selected, I'm staying away from predictions. I do, though, wish to see Mickelson and Woods not paired, together. They just don't play well.

The way i see the Ryder cup is that the US have 2 or 3 amazing players (tiger, phil) while the Europeans have a team of good player without anyone standing out!

Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.

My Thrash Talk this week deals with the current status of the United States team. In a couple weeks, I'll talk about the status of the European side. Check it out if you haven't already.

All i'm hoping for is a contest. A rout would make 2011 and so on very interesting, seeing as how the last few have been routs on the Euro side!

There should be some new team members - a bit of youth perhaps. Calling a rout that this stage is a little premature....As has been said, the teams have not been picked!

Europe recently has putt much better than USA.

I don't get it with very good putters like Tiger, Phil, and Cink. When we make putts, as did Couples, and Demarco in Past Presidents Cups, USA wins.

Still kinda early though . . .

Good point - because that's what it comes down to - putting! They're top class players and can all hit the ball. Over 3 days and 5 rounds, it's all about who holes the putt at the important times.

Ahhh the beauty of matchplay!
