Default Spring Golf Rituals - March 10th, 2006

Who here has spring golf rituals? Get the clubs out of storage, clean them up, buy a couple dozen golf balls... that kind of thing. I'll share mine later, but for now, I'm wondering what yours are.

Sorry Erik, but my clubs never leave the trunk of my car with the weather down here. It's permanent storage.

One thing I do every January/February is to clean the bag out pocket by pocket and lighten the load. I'll also give the shoes a really good cleaning and polishing. If the towels are dirty, they'll get washed as well. Basically, everything gets a good cleaning.

Fairways and Greens.

Well, it's not really a designated Spring ritual, but I always practice my putting and chipping in the basement and backyard when I can.

Also, I'm re-gripping my clubs this weekend.

When are we planning our Bethpage trip? PM me or something if you'd like. Rafi and I are in.

My spring ritual is:
1) check on all of my clubs (none need regripping this year)
2) start hitting more putts with my putter in the living room
3) start hitting clubs in the yard if there's grass
4) visit the golf dome a little more to hit half wedges and maybe drivers off the tee just to loosen up the golf muscles
5) inspect my golf bag to see if anything's missing, replenish stock of things I need (tees, balls), swap out the old rules book for the new rules book, etc.
6) buy a few golf shirts and pants - last year from the IZOD factory outlet store. pretty inexpensive, but good quality shirts.

I think that's about it.

I go to the golf dome during the winter so my bag is always ready to go. During the summer when I get home I add what I need to the bag for the next day. I have five pair of shoes, a couple of dozen balls, cart cover and heater in the truck all year long.

1. Regrip my clubs.
2. Clean 'em up.
3. If its warm enough, (has been last the last few days) chip and pitch on the 4th green.
4. Go to the indoor driving range the last few weeks of winter to get the timing back.

Lucky for me, its been pretty warm the past few days so I've been able to the play the North Course over the weekend. Shot -3 for 9 holes on Saturday (temporary greens in the fairway short of the actual greens) and played 18 today, not sure what the score was but I was driving the ball excellently. Deep and straight.
