Who is better - Lefty or Tiger? -
June 8th, 2006
S.I. had interesting comprison of all aspect of golf game (including caddies, coaches, mental game, etc.) It came out pretty close. What do you think?
IMHO - it's not even close and Tiger was, is and will be much better than Phil. Raw talent, work ethic, athletics, mental approach - he's DA MAN.

I like Phil way more than Tiger, and think that certain aspects of his game are better, but certain aspects of Tiger's game are way better than those of Phil's. Tiger comes off as way to much of an automaton to really be fun to watch unless he is absolutely owning a tournament, whereas Phil looks like he's having some fun out there.
For now, I give the edge to Lefty, simply because of his recent dominance on tour, but I think recent wins at majors play a huge rule in determing who is better month to month and year to year.

Yeah, as much hype as Phil is getting for winning two majors in a row and killing the field at the BellSouth Classic I'm going with Tiger. Not only is he the safe bet and more accomplished of the two (by a long shot), he has that edge that Phil has lacked.
Granted, I think Phil is playing with a new confidence and swagger that he's lacked. He's playing amazing golf right now and think he's turned a corner. So we'll see. It would be great if Phil could snatch a win from Tiger late in a tournament to prove he is or can be better than el-Tigre.
But right now betting against Tiger Woods isn't the safe way to go.

Tiger is just on another level. Even on his off days he is near the top of the leaderboard in majors. Phil has closed the gap in the past couple years, but when the gap is the Grand Canyon, getting half way across still leaves you pretty far away from the other side.
Fairways and Greens.

Nobody on this site is a bigger fan of Phills than me but Tiger has a better mental makeup and Phill has to prove he can beat Tiger head to head.Phill is closing on him but Tiger is still the man.

Well, Phil has been better in 2006, but that doesn't mean he is "better" than Tiger in the overall picture.
Tiger is still the go-to guy in golf, and he will be until someone knocks him off the top of the world golf rankings. For someone to do that, however, they will have to win A LOT of tournaments without Tiger winning any. If they can do that, they deserve to be the #1.
Phil is playing great, but he has a lot more finishes outside the top-20 and top-30 than Tiger does. It seems like Phil decides to show up about half of the time. Tiger, on the other hand, always seems to be in the top-10 or top-15.
