Default Johnny Miller - Latest Golf Digest - April 20th, 2007

In the latest Golf Digest magazine, in Johnny Miller's column, he makes the claim that Michelle Wie has the best swing in golf today. Not just the ladies tours, but all of them.

I have never cared for Johnny and his whiney little voice. I cannot stand when he says things just to be controversial and this strikes me as one of them. This is the same guy who wrote in his column that he thinks the days of the single strap bag should come back as it was more "jaunty" to carry your bag that way. If you are writing about that in your golf column, you don't have enough to write about.

Nick Faldo - who outclassed and outplayed Miller on the golf course tenfold - is again outclassing and out"playing" him in the broadcast booth.

Michelle does have a good swing. Dunno if it's the best - it may be the best for her, and she's incredibly flexible. Plus, at the U.S. Women's Open last year, she couldn't find the 50-yard wide fairways half the time.

Im not really a fan of Faldo or Miller in the booth, but i find Johnny to be more indepth and more inciteful than Faldo's goofy commentary. Im no golf teacher or pga professional but I agree.. Michelle Wie has one of the best looking swings in golf.

I am not saying she doesn't have a good swing, but best in the game? I mean, I can think of a number of better swings on the PGA Tour alone. Johnny just likes his controversy, or starting it. That is why I think he is a lousy announcer.

I would much rather listen to Faldo than Johnny Miller. Miller has his moments but sometimes he just likes to sound insightful. Then you listen to him and he really isn't saying much at all. I like the fact that Faldo adds more of an entertainment flair while being knowledgable. I think what helps Faldo is Miller is much further removed from his PGA tour playing days and it shows in the broadcast booth.

OK... so this wasn't a Miller vs Faldo thread. Back to the topic. Like her or hate her Michelle Wie has a great swing. Beautiful swing, but the best? I dunno I think that's going a little too far. Maybe she does have one of the best swings in golf but comments like this doesn't help Michelle Wie.

There really are too many great swings to coin one as the best.

If I can channel Claude Harmon for minute, Mr. Miller is full of it. There's just no evidence to support his claim.

The game's not called pretty, it's called golf. The "best" swing is the one that puts the ball the closest to the target. How you do it and what it looks like just do not matter. Alan Doyle has a swing that's painful to watch, but he's a 2 time U.S. Senior Open champion because it works. Michelle Wie has a pretty swing, and she's never won anything.

Michelle has a good swing, but in no way I would say she has the best. I love Ernie Els' swing.

Erik, you have to be kidding. (Liked the podcast, btw.) Faldo is really having trouble making the transition from color man to play-by-play. Half the time he can't finish a sentence! He goes "Tiger's swing looks a bit off today, like he's trying to, y'know, sort of, uh, rush it, like uh, rather than, uh... <trails off>" He was much better when he didn't have the burden of having to describe the action, and could fully form a thought before speaking. And, half his charm was the banter with Azinger; that type of inside-baseball ribbing is completely missing, and that's what he's good at. He's just average with KT, Lerner or Nance.

I like Miller because he's a crusty old sob, and will say weird stuff like the Wie comment. He can also complete a sentence.
