Phil Mickelson bores me -
January 28th, 2008
Who thinks Phil will still be great some day? Anyone? Will he even get 45 wins by the time Tiger has 90? He is #2 in the world and is playing like he is #15. I'll bet he falls out of the top five in the world this season, maybe even the top ten.
He seems like a nice enough guy, but it is clear he is not living up to his potential on the tour. Watching him play is like watching a slow motion car wreck. He sprays the ball all over the course off the tee, misses short putts constantly and tries off-the-charts dumb shots at every oppportunity.
The guy is a slouching bundle of self-doubt and no matter how many brilliant chip shots he hits in a round, they seldom compensate for his errant shots. He hits those great chip shots so often because he is constant needing to hit them to save his booty.
He seems resigned to his place in history as a decent "also ran" during the Tiger era.

I think it's going to be tough to be seen as great in the Tiger era, except for the obvious one. Phil has won 32 times, 23 of which were in the Tiger era. This includes 3 majors. I'd say that's a pretty good - if not great - record.

I think Lefty will probably get another two tournament wins this year. I like watching his play, especially his approach shots and chips. He's definitely got a lot of talent. Have you ever seen him ever hit a ball backwards, over his back?

With his win total, I think the term "also-ran" is a bit harsh. He has the numbers to get into the golf hall of fame, and if he can add another 5-10 wins he's in some pretty exclusive company.
I'm not a huge Phil fan, with his 'aw shucks' demeanor, but the guy is up there when you look at history IMO.

I find watching Tiger (although impressive) annihalating the field everytime he plays "boring" but that just my oppinion.
Yeah id disagree aswell. Phil wont slip this year, I see where you're coming from though because he hasnt played well since before the US open last year. He just has some rust from that wrist injury to shake off. I imagine he wont pick up steam untill mid-season or so. When he's playing well he is one of the, if no the most exciting player to watch.

I hate to say it, but your post is complete nonsense. Anyone who doesn't like watching Phil play is in denial, he's probably the most exciting player in the game today (yes even more so than SaintTiger). Phil is the unquestioned second best player in the world right now, and I would be shocked if he wasn't still ranked #2 at the end of the season. He seems as motivated as ever to realize his vast potential, and he'll probably end up winning a major (maybe even a couple) this season. Unlike a lot of people (mostly people who know less about golf than they let on), I'm not ready to say that Tiger's going to make this season a complete wash!

theres only 1 Tiger Woods if you haven't noticed BUd.....not every player can play week in and week out (other then Tiger) on the same level of consistency as he can/does......Phil is still a GREAT golfer weather you think so or not....all I can say to you is if you don't like watching him play, simply turn off your TV when he's on.....

I couldn't DISAGREE more... Phil is going to be in the hall of fame and will be regarded as one of the best players in the game. He needs some more major wins, but I think they will come. If he wins two per year the next 8 years (until he's 45) he will finish with 48 wins. That's pretty damned impressive, and I would bank on him breaking 50. There is only one Tiger, but there is also only one #2 and until I see something great from someone else it is PHIL. It was Ernie a few years back, and Jim Furyk is consistent and good, but right now Phil is a significant bit better than the next best.

the title of this thread is funny. i cant say that i "hate" the guy, as that's a strong word, but i dont generally like him or root for him.
to me, it seemed like he was playing some really uninspired golf. like whatever it was that has been driving him to play thus far has been lost. it really seemed to me like he was just trying to get through his rounds, with a lot of effort.
