Default Nationwide Tour vs European Tour - February 9th, 2008

I had a discussion with a guy who wanted to know which Tour is better as far as depth goes. I really do think that the Nationwide Tour has better players than the European Tour from top to bottom. You always see Nationwide Tour players winning on the PGA Tour-it happens more than European tour guys on the PGA Tour. What do u guys think

While I don't doubt that the great Nationwide Tour players - the ones who get promoted - are as good as the rank-and-file PGA Tour players, I think one of the reasons they win as much is that they're more used to the PGA Tour style of courses. I seem to have it in my head that the European Tour plays links-style courses more often.

I agree with Shindig, i think it is a little different golf, Euro Tour Guys dont have much problem competing in Majors, Nationwide guy definitely have sick skills, just not the expereince the PGA and Euro guys do.

are you joking? nationwide tour players are the amateurs in the pro circuit. european tour is fully fledged pros. as far as ratings go, the european tour is probably just under the likes of the uspga due to money, but european players play on much harder/less forgiving courses compared to uspga courses which don't penalise the players much for making a bad shot. e.g. rough is thin compared to thick on europe courses, bunkers are shallower compared the european courses which are deep

The European Tour is far superior to the Nationwide Tour. Just look at the results in the 4 majors each year to see how good the players from the European Tour are. It cannot compete with the USPGA Tour for prizemoney and probably depth over the full field but the top line players (Tiger excluded) are of very similar ability.

I'm just going to throw a few European Tour members names into the mix:

Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, Henrik Stenson, Adam Scott, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke, Vijay Singh, Daniel Chopra, Colin Montgomerie, Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey, Retief Goosen, Angel Cabrera....etc...etc....

I sure hope some of these guys manage to get their nationwide status for the coming year or they may run into financial difficulties.

The European Tour plays a little bit of everything. They have parkland and desert courses, and of course the best links.

I don't think Nationwide and European Tour are comparable... Nationwide is a developmental tour, yeah, it's the highest level of such, but it is designed to be a feeder system into the PGA. The European Tour is the best of the rest (of the world). Sure some Aussies and others just come straight over to the US, but as other posters have pointed out... the Euro tour is a top tier tour. In Europe they have a tour that is similar to the Nationwide (a feeder tour)... it is called the Challenge Tour.

Did you do any research in to the subject before posting? as some people have already said the varying results speak for themselves, the two tours are on completely different levels, the European Tour is designed to be on the same level as the PGA Tour (and the European tour has been strengthened more recently with the return of a few key big names, and also the future Dubai swing which carries the highest purse in golf)

the Nationwide tour is more accurately compared to the Euro Pro Tour which is also a developmental tour, and in the case of comparing the Euro Pro Tour and the Nationwide Tour I would say the Nationwide Tour is much stronger, however the Nationwide Tour doesn't compare to the European Tour, comparison between the two is illogical.
