My trusty Wilson 8802 just wasn't doing it for me. On the brink of eBaying it, I put a new Winn AVS Midsize grip on it, after taking an inch off it.
It was 35 inches before and now it is 34 inches.
I wanted to give this putter one last shot. Last night, I installed this new grip and 2hrs later, hit a few putts on the carpet.
I realized that the bottom of the grip was not snug on the shaft, there is a 2mm gap between the grip and the shaft.
I understand that it may have been that the shaft is the wrong circumference for the grip i bought, but more likely, the 1 inch i hacked off it has obviously made the shaft slightly thinner in relation to the new installed grip position.
Has anyone ever done this before? If so, what did you do about it?
I could buy a new grip... and install 3-4 layers of tape. But I really want to salvage this grip that cost me £9 by sorting this problem out.
Any advice on filling the gap, or anything to get rid of this gap, would be appreciated.
Thanks![]()
