I use to use the same method on the score card: F=fairways, G=greens and P=putts. I mark hit fairways/greens with a O, X for misses and a number for putts. But the wife gave me the new Garmin S4 for Xmas and it has the option of tracking stats, after your round you go home and download all the days stats onto your computer. Pretty handy.

I have usually kept a written journal with no real stats but just swing thoughts and other things that I think would help me. I actually think stats by themselves are useless unless accompanied by some thoughts about how you played.

I usually just write on the scorecard "FW", "GIR, "Putts" and put a checkmark and/or # on the column below each hole.

I also printed out some 4.25" x 5.5" cards I sometimes use to keep track of my clubs and types of misses. The phone apps have all of this and more but being technology challenged I found this to be quicker to fill out after each shot. This one is designed for a 9 hole course.

If the result is what I wanted (fairway hit, GIR or long putt that gets close to the hole), I simply put a check mark in the appropriate box. Otherwise, I use the code at the bottom to track what kind of miss occurred.

I don't know that this would be useful to anyone else, but you are welcome to it. I'd also be happy to design a custom card (free) to any member of the forum.

What is everyone's favorite method for keeping different statistics on how they're playing? I myself like to keep a little book in my back left pocket that I pull out between shots to note things like fairways hit, greens hit, number of putts, as well as scrambling percentages. I make little marks that indicate how I did on a certain hole (F means hit fairway, MF means missed fairway etc.) then tally it up after the round is done to total the results of the round.

So how do you keep statistics on your golf game?

I'm on my phone, but @Pretzel , expect this thread to be merged into one of the many stats threads we have. Maybe @jamo will do it.

Or maybe it's slightly different enough that it can be on its own.

Combined a few threads. Good topic for a thread, probably don't need a dozen of 'em. :-) These few are all about the methods for stat tracking.
