Hi! I'm looking for a good place to get a good enough fit for a good price in NY (Westchester County).

I'm thinking of completely rebuilding my set with a new driver, irons, etc, and I want to have at least the driver and irons fitted, mainly the irons. There's a Golfsmith less than 5 minutes away, but I've heard some fairly bad reviews of the Golfsmith fitting.

Where would be a good place to go for the fitting and possibly buying of the clubs?

Where in Westchester are you? If you are near Peekskill/Yorktown Heights, you should check out Bobby Malaspina at Golflink. It's not a huge place but he has access to everything you can think of. More importantly, in addition to being a club fitter, he is a club builder. He can do everything from scratch. Nothing is sent out for assembly.

If you are near White Plains, I would suggest John Ioris at The Complete Golfer. He can do fit you for everything from balls to Driver to grips. He also has access to every piece of equipment from Mizuno to Muira. All the work is done on the premises. Again, nothing is sent out for assembly.

I'm in Scarsdale, about 5 minutes away from the Golfsmith, if you know which one I'm talking about. About how much would a fairly general fitting cost at these places?

I'll probably head over to White Plains as that's just about 10 minutes away from here.

Yes, I know exactly where you are. You should check out The Complete Golfer. He's at 300 Hamilton Avenue, about a mile from the Westchester Mall. I paid $250 for my fitting. Everything from balls to putter.

Although, I did not purchase my clubs from him, he did replace all my shafts, did work on my wedges, putter and built my driver. Call him, though. If your intent is to purchase everything from him, he may waive the fee but am not 100%, sure.

    • I would recommend spending some time at the range and film your swing. You can post it in the Member Swings thread. At the range, you can figure out how to control the driver a bit more. We can offer some pointers once you post in the Member Swings section.
    • With the H4 or the watch, you tag the club before hitting by putting the tag next to the device. The tag is on the club butt end. After a round, you don’t really think about it too much. You just do it. I don’t know how far you are from @phillyk, but he may know an instructor in your area.
    • So the biggest issue right now is marrying the hands down with an athletic turn. I can get stuck not turning. Things get interesting from there.

    • Hi everybody!  I am new to the golf game. I have taken some lessons and got fitted for clubs a couple of months ago. I usually score between 110-120 for 18 holes.  I bought a Stealth driver last year and have been hitting consistently with it 210-230 yds on the simulator. But when I take it out on the course, every drive is a severe slice!  I played 18 holes yesterday at the club where I belong. I removed the driver from my bag and used the 5 iron to drive with. I hit straight 16 out of 18 drives, 180 - 200 yds. I used the 5i - putter for the rest of my game.  I ended the day with a 92. Question: Does it make sense for me to continue playing with irons only until I get further along in my game before I reintroduce the Driver and woods again? Or should I continue to struggle with the Driver and woods and shoot in the 100’s again? To me it’s a no brainer, but for those more advanced I am interested to get feedback.
