I got my 57s about 2 months ago and love them. I do notice however that I lost about a full club of distance through the entire set. With my last 2 sets before these I hit my 9 iron 150-155 and now have to hit my 8 iron that distance. Is this the result of them being less forgiving? I still seem to lose the distance even on well struck shots.

No, they are just higher lofts for each club probably...

Mizunos are more traditional in their lofts. ie..higher lofts in their clubs making their long irons entirely playable. Check out equip2golf.com to compare with your old set of irons. But if you hit it on the sweet spot, the distance control of a Mizuno is pretty hard to beat.

How do you find the MP57s less forgiving? They're a full cavity back. What were you playing with before?

I hit mine about the same distance as my previous set (a starter set).

But the loft could be a big deal. Or the shaft length, if you bought one or both just straight off the shelf. I remember demoing the Cobra UFIs and found that I hit their PW past my then-current 9-iron. Then I found out it had a stronger loft than my then-current 9-iron. Are you having the opposite situation?

I've been playing old Mizuno Pro II's for a while now and I've found them to be shorter than most other irons. I've been told its the cost of having such soft metal, but I'm not sure, it could be the same thing for you.

I am actually having the same problem with my new set of MP 30's. I had Callaway X12's, and could hit my 9I about 155 consistently. Now, I hit it only about 140-145. I am not for sure if it is my swing or the club. I will definitely check the lofts though.

Seems to be some long hitters in this thread.

Like others posted, its more than likely the Mizuno lofts are not as strong as your prior sets. I used the AP1's (2* stronger) earlier this year and hit 155 yard-9 irons but I much prefer the feel of the MP-57's as well as the consistent distance they provide. Also as Shindig posted, shaft length (and flex) can make a pretty good distance difference as well.
