I wouldn't have my cell phone turned on while playing.

i would think that just by reading this joke you could at least learn something from it. whats wrong with putting your cell phone on silent/vibrate and just glancing at it every 3-4 holes to make sure you havnt missed an important call, or like this joke, something bad has happened....afterall, isn't that one of the main reasons you own a cell phone, so that people can reach you just in case something happens...

Hopefully you haven't heard this one..

Ok first off - that's a funny joke - nice work.

And second - If anyone considered finishing a round of golf when a wife/mother/father/brother or anything was in critical and about to pass on, just bury yourself in a sand trap.

I bring my cell phone and put it in one of the pouches on my bag. I turn the ringer off though, and like someone said above, I check it every so often just in case.. not incase of EMERGENCY necessarily, but just in case ANYONE has called me... there are almost always at least one or 2 times when Im waiting for a group to get far enough ahead to tee off... doesnt hurt to see if my gf or dad called or something.

Ive been playing a few times when someones cellphone rang, but one time stands out.. I was on the green putting for par, and RIGHT when I putted, the SECOND I did, the guy who was holding the flag had his cell go off.. it was pretty loud too. I missed the putt and he appologized quite a bit.. but I can honestly say it wasnt cause of the phone, I just had a bad line so I wasnt mad really... though it COULD Have been really ugly had someone else been putting or if it DID affect their shot... Im a pretty Mellow guy though.

THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME!! lol in one way, its unfortunate that we are broken up now, but in another way, at least i dont have to worry about getting put on a guilt trip on the golf course again anytime soon haha.

There may be a choice over what to do in a joke, but I doubt anyone would elect to finish a round of golf in a real crisis of this sort.

OTOH, I keep my cell phone turned off when I'm playing golf, so I wouldn't know until the round was over...........Ingorance truly is bliss!

Then that guy must be stupid. Okay, I'm just 16 but I'd rather go see my son be born rather than finishing a round of golf. Seriously, family 1st in the place, health 2nd in the place, golf 3rd and then work 4th place. You got to have your priorities...

Well, he's a little bit about things like that. When my mother was in labor with her 5th kid, we all knew that it would be several hours. In fact, the 4 previous kids (myself included) were born well over 20 to 25 hours after my mother went into labor.

In that case, it would almost make sense to finish off the round, since we knew it would be a while before my baby sister was born. In fact, it was 36 hours before she was born. The doctor sent my mother home and we all went to sleep and carried on with our day. So, in some instances, going into labor does NOT mean rush to the hospital. With this being the guy's 4th kid, he probably had a good idea of how long it would be before the real action started. I'm not defending him... I'm just offering a possible explanation before we all crucify this guy.

I had this happen to me... kinda.

It was my mother that died, in her sleep, and my wife came out to the course to tell me (because my cell phone was turned off!)

I elected to finish the round. Partly because my mother was already gone, and the fact that my parents live(d) in PA, and I was in Ohio, and mostly because I was on the 17th fairway when my wife caught up with me!

It's a judgement call, some people are not as "close" as others...

Beside, IT'S JUST A JOKE PEOPLE!!!!!!

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
