Well, it's time for another Big Break . I've got 4 interviews lined up for after the show this week (Michael and Amber on Tuesday night and Andrea and Haymes on Wed). Should be fun...

Given this is the first time "couples" are competing, it will be interesting to see if the drama around relationships overshadows the golf - hope not. The previews seem to suggest that relationships will play a big part of the show. That's okay as long as the golf is the star in the end.

I wonder how they'll decide on elmination. Anyone think they'll use the same "two strike rule" like they did on Highway 18? I kind of hope they do something different.

I look forward to chatting with you all every week like we did on HW 18 - let me know if you have questions for the contestants and I'll be sure to ask in the interviews. But puleeze...no marriage proposals, okay guys!

Gayle

Well, it's time for another

Notice it says 4 interviews and not 2. Separate and not as a team. I mention that only because of something I read recently, that Michael and Amber are not only no longer an item, they don't speak to each other.

I was wondering how Gayle was going to handle it during interviews. Here's the related section from the Duramed website: http://www.duramedfuturestour.com/En...s/FS100508.ssi "It’s going to be interesting to see what they cut and what they use,” said rookie Tour member and contestant Amber Prange of Noblesville, Ind., whose older sister, Ashley Prange, was the winner of “Big Break V: Hawaii.” “It was a great experience and an eye-opening experience,” added the younger Prange sister, who teamed with then-boyfriend Robby Shaw of Kentucky. The two are no longer dating. “We’re actually no longer speaking,” admitted Prange. “I’ll be interested to watch this show unravel.”

Interesting way of saying that. I wonder if this means the show was instrumental in unraveling the relationship, or if she chose the word inadvertently.

This is going to be a fun season! I wonder how they are going to make the elimination/immunity challenges different for 2 people.

Hey BlingoQueen -- surely you're not precluded from posting about other shows, so are you going to join us in this thread?? You'd offer a unique perspective for a couple reasons.

Yes, the word "unravel" was an interesting choice. I caught that also. It's a unique word so I've got to believe there was reason for it.

Meanwhile, my darn cable is out suddenly. Looks like I might have to catch one of the dozens of replays.

I don't want to watch golfers who skull shots and miss the green from 75 yards competing for a chance to play on the world's toughest tours.

Oh boy, you'd better go read the Hwy 18 thread! In a nutshell, it's what Charlotte Campbell calls her hand-made ball markers.

They're not playing at the keynote events... I was suprised to see them offer an exemption to the PGA tour though, would have expected a Nationwide tour event

I could only see one person so far, just based on initial perceptions of their swings, having an ability to compete... that would be Hugo. His swing is pretty impressive

I liked the tweak in format where teams who face elimination can win their way to stay on the show. While I think the team facing elimination was let off the hook this week, it could definitely come back to bite some teams. I wonder if this format will continue or if they will go back to head to heads for facing elimination as done in previous seasons.

It was also interesting to see them change hosts again. Stina is back, but Andrew McGee out with Billy Ray Brown as host. I still liked Vince C. as host of the show the best.

Looks like another quality season on the horizon. A good set of prizes for the winners; the BMW's up for grabs are a great looking car.

I have to agree with Iacas. I could not believe some of the shots I saw tonight. My wife who is a 36 handicap happened to come in while I was watching and was like, "I could be on that show". I'll be curious to see if everyone will settle down and play well or if we are in for some simple TV drama with the different "couples" issues. Hope it'll focus on golf.

Well, I liked the show tonight. Although 2 shanks in one show has to be a record - they must have been really really nervous.

However, I have to say that I really felt like Golf Channel has been paying attention and is giving us real golf challenges this time around. I think the teams will settle down. I am also curious if how future elimination challenges will set up. Because this was the first show, I'm not sure how hard the other contestants tried to eliminate Rachel and Otis. I do expect it will come back to bite them. I had a chance to talk with Amber and Michael tonight. Check out their interviews and let me know what you think. I will add Haymes and Andrea interviews tomorrow. I love a new series! Gayle

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
