Can one of the Administrators please sticky this?

The whole idea of this thread is for anyone who visits it to give the best piece of golf advice they have ever heard, and anyone who needs help can browse through the posts and see if there is anything that applies to them.

The best tip I was ever given was to get properly fit for my clubs. I still believe it is the single most important thing you can do for your game.
Next time they give you all that civic bullshit about voting, keep in mind that Hitler was elected in a full, free democratic election- George Carlin

The best tip I ever received was never take a tip from someone during a round.

The reasoning of this is that it is difficult to change a swing during a round. Basically what you have when you start the round is what you are going to finish with. Also, most of the people in public golf have no idea about the mechanics and fundamentals of the golf swing. While I know my swing and am well versed in most fundamental and mechanical components, I would never offer a swing tip because this is not what I do, I am not a Golf Instructor. I would recommend for most players, including myself, take a lesson from a great instructor.

See the quote in my signature below.

I thought at first it was jsut coming from a crazy old man that didn't know where he was. Then I thought about it and realized what he was saying. He was telling me that no one hits a perfect shot every time and that this entire game is about recovering from bad shots and always looking ahead. If you hit a bad shot, suck it up and hit a better one next time. If you hit a good shot, don't get cocky and think you're great because the course will come back and bite you soon enough.

Best way to improve is to play the game from your misses.

I believe many have said this, but I've heard Jim Thorpe talk about this alot - and he is someone I admire, so I'll use him as my reference.

Shorten your backswing. It makes you more powerful, more consistent, and it lowered my handicap by 28 strokes in 3 months.

My first round ever, was a local competition at my home club--a Monthly Mug; Upon teeing off the first, one of my playing partners asked me,

"Is it your first time playing golf?" I replied in the affirmative. She said,

"Well son, just relax and enjoy the game."--her only son was one of Kenya's best pro players, and she told me she'd said the same thing to him when he started off!

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
