Well currently I am playing my starter set I bought at target a couple of years ago and I am wanting to upgrade. I went to dicks the other day and was looking around and I liked the Cobra Fp's and The Cleveland Golds. However a couple of people have been telling me to check out the Nickent Irons and with them costing significantly less they seemed to catch my eye. On the other hand Ive read some reviews and some people love them and some hate them so Im not really sure what to think. So basically what I am asking is does anyone play them? If so, which set do you have and what to you like and dislike about them? Also, I havent hit any of the mentioned clubs yet but will do so before buying.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I am only looking to spend up to around $400 at the moment which is the main reasons I have been looking at those brands. I also forgot to mention that I was looking at the Nike CCI's as well so if anyone has any input on those as well that would be great. Basically Im trying to improve my game this year and will be taking a couple of lessons in the next month or so and would like to have a decent set of game improvement irons before I take the lessons.

If I do decide to go with the Nickent's I was looking at the 3DX Reds and the 3DX-RC's. Im pretty sure they both come with the 3 and 4 Hybrids and 5-pw. Rock bottom golf has a deal on the 3DX reds right now but Im not sure I want to buy without hitting them because other than Dicks there isnt many golf stores in my area.

Yeah that is a tough one. Dicks doesn't have Nickent? Maybe go on Nickent golf website find a retailer nearest you and make a drive. Better safe than sorry. Doesnt matter how much money you save if you cant hit them once you have them.

Dicks doesnt carry them for some reason. I think the closest "Golf" store to me is Golf Galaxy which is about an hour drive. But I guess that hour drive can save me the headache of returning them or having to sell them if I dont like them. It would also give me the chance to hit some other brands as well since I wasnt able to at dicks. That place was crowded when I was there for some reason and had people waiting in line to test out clubs.

DLR, if the Golf Galaxy store you are referring to is the one near the airport in Pittsburgh, I work across the street. I would be happy to check and see if they carry Nickent (or anything else for that matter). Just respond and let me know.

Yeah Jared its the one in Robinson Town Center. If you dont mind checking it out for me that would be great. I am located near California Pa close to the University so its roughly around an hour drive for me to get there. Thank you.

The Golf Galaxy in Robinson does carry Nickent, but the only set they had was the DX set. They were 4-W with a hybrid 3. The irons were steel shafted and Uniflex. The hybrid was graphite and to be honest I forget to check the shaft flex on it.

Thanks Jared. Im going to try and make it there this weekend if I have time and maybe try and hit them. Even though they arent the same set that I was looking at it should give me a general idea of the club quality. While Im there Ill probably hit a couple of others as well. Thanks a lot.

Another alternative is to buy pre-owned. You get more quality for your dollar buying used. You can get a sweet set of irons for under $400. Golf Galaxy usually has a good selection of used clubs.

  • 1 month later...
Well I figured I would go ahead and update this thread. I ended up talking to a friend who had a friend that had a set off Nickent 3DX in reg graphite shafts and he said he would let hit a couple off balls with them to see if I liked them. Overall I liked the clubs but the shafts felt a little whippy for me. With that said I ended up going with the 3DX 3H,4H,5-PW in Stiff graphite shaft. At first I was hitting the ball well but I had a slight fade in just about every ball I hit. The overall ball flight I liked but I could not get used to the fade. So now here I am where I played about 6 rounds with them with some range time here and there and I still hitting the fade. The problem I am having is that my old set of irons I hit the ball pretty straight overall with a push and pull here and there. After doing a little bit of searching online I found that a fade with your irons sometimes mean the shaft is to stiff. Do you guys think that might be my problem? I have noticed a loss of distance as well but I can deal with that but the fade I can not. Anyone have any input?

Nickent 3DX pro's or Nickent 4DX Pro's. you can get a brand new set of the 3DX Pro's for under $200 and a brand new set of the forged 4DX Pro's for under $400 on ebay and thecluboutlet.com.

EDIT: i see you already purchased the irons. nevermind, lol

I see you already bought. I don't know about the Nickent, but I'd go with Mizunos.
You can find the MX 950 which is a good set of irons for high handicappers on ebay for around $350.

Thats one of the reasons I updated this thread because If it is indeed the shafts I might end up selling the nickents and finding something in reg steel shafts which I am used to playing and after going out and hitting a couple of balls wih my old clubs i am leaning in that direction. I am at a point where I dont really want to go through the trouble of selling and buying new clubs again but I dont want this summer to be a wasted golfing with these clubs. With that said I am going on vacation next week where Ill be golfing some and Ill probably have my mind made up after that.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
