I finally got my three Titleist Vokey Spin-Milled wedges! I chose the gun metal color, and bought a 52 with 8 bounce, 56 with 14 bounce, and 60 with 4 bounce. Can't wait to try them out on some RANGE balls! :) The metal feels so soft and buttery...wow, its amazing what $109 will buy you. I'm shocked that these feel so soft yet supposedly rip up a golf ball. Anyway, I didn't pay $109 for these, I paid about 70 for each wedge including tax. Yes, I said $70 each since I bought some gift cards from someone for .60 on the dollar. I actually had $500 worth of credit that I paid $300 for, so I still have roughly $150 for other stuff.

Thanks, guys. As much as I'd like to think that these clubs will help lower my handicap, I'm confident it won't be much as a result of the equipment alone. I've got to continue to play once a week and get to the range as I have been. I've never worked so hard on my game, ever. Being 38 years old, I want to get my game down as best I can so that when I retire, I'm not picking the game up then. Plus, I have more fun golfing than doing just about anything else. And because of all that, I'm rewarding myself with good gear/clothes.

See ya on the links.

Thanks, guys.

I'm right there with ya....40 and retirement is no longer something I never consider.....it's out there on the distant horizon (made further away by economy

). The right sticks sure can help. You've got some nice scoring clubs. I dropped other hobbies, like hunting. Cool thing about golf is the clothes you game are great for casual wear, too. Camo from hunting is simply for that alone......and some of the camo is selling for crazy high $$$.

Well, I practice law for someone else's firm and I hate it. I hate marching off to work each day and for someone else, not myself. Therefore, I'm busting my ass on three great business ideas that will all be almost passive once I get them going, with a few more great ideas as backups...if I can replace my income with any of these, I quit practicing law and spend the majority of my time on the other businesses and playing golf when other people are working, such as Tuesday and Wednesday mid-morning rounds. I used to own my own business back in my 20s and I played golf or jet skiied several times a week. I got caught up in needing more money and went to law school and to work for someone else. BIG mistake. I want the old life back :) so that's my plan.

Enjoy the wedges, they're grrrrrrrrreaat!

If you want to get your handicap down you should spend the majority of your practice time trying to get up & down from various angles/lies/distances.

From Dr. Bob Rotella's Golf is a Game of Confidence (chapter 7):
"A player that shoots in the 90s generally hits no more than one or two greens in regulation. That means that on sixteen or seventeen holes he or she is going to face a chip or pitch to the green.
Most high hadicappers, by definition, rarely gt up and down; sometimes they take four strokes, because they leave a shot in the bunker or stub a chip. If they learned to get up and down even a third of the time, they would play in the 80s atleast part of the time."

Well, you have a point. I never noticed camoflaged Cleveland wedges and other camoflaged stuff until Boo came around.

And Boo is coming out with his own golf clothing line. Camo golf shirts with blaze orange accents and vice versa. I think there will also be some black shirts with camo/blaze orange accents. And some limited edition hats. My son is a big Boo fan...

You got all the wrong lofts though...

How about an explanation of what I should have bought, and why, and also why I got the wrong lofts.

Or is my sarcasm detector needing batteries?

I still have not hit 'em yet. Everytime I try to get to the range, something foils my plans. I think I may get over there later this afternoon once it begins to cool off.

Are you claiming to be able to feel the hardness of steel with your bare hands?

Good grief.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
