Congrat's on the new putter, it's always fun to play with new equipment.

I used to use a white hot 2 ball, and I liked it, but it's not great from long distances b/c of the softness of the insert. Perhaps they fixed things with their new white steel line but I think there's better models out there for much cheaper.

Take a look at Cleveland's classic putter series (about $50), and Ping's G2 Anser . Just about every steel blade putter on the market today is a ripoff of the Anser.

Bottom line is: putting's all about confidience so keep trying different putters until you find one that makes you feel like you'll drain every putt you step up to.

Good advice. After using the Mezza Monza I realize I like a simpler looking putter head. Nothing fancy. I get really distracted by a big putter head. I've looked at Ping's G2 series putters and they look really nice plus have great prices even new. The B60 was appealing to me but I'll just have to get out and try them at one of the local shops.

Ping wasn't a company that ever appealed to me probably because of the unusaul look of their irons but the more I read about them the more I like.

I like the feeling a putter without the insert provides like you described above. It seems like I judge distances better without the insert. Plus I play with a fairly soft ball. I find that an insert on a soft ball doesn't transmit the feeling I like. The search continues.

I am using the same set I started with 2 years ago:

Tommy Armour 845s Oversize Plus 3~SW
Tommy Armour 845HFS 3 Wood
TearDrop 109 Putter (33", I like 'em short)
Snake Eyes 600T Driver with UST Shaft (self fit and assembled)

This winter I will build a wedge and a 5 wood and probably regrip everything with loaded grips.

Thanks Jeff. I am a professional and have personal use with several companies and try to keep up with equipment. I am always tweaking stuff. I am changing my driver from a Ping G 2 to an Alpha 820C V2 very shortly.

I enjoy it. I am bought it cause I am a DLIII fan. I messed around with it inside, really liked the way it played so i put it in the bag. I am starting to collect the cameron putters, and headcovers. But it is slow going.

    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
