Dammit. Last spring I had a very bad slice on my drives. I got rid of it during the summer and it seemed to stay away for the time being i didnt golf very much in the fall but it wasn't there when i did. When i say slice i mean very very very bad slice about 50 yards to the right if i aim right down the fairway. I have talked to people about my swing and I have a normal swing and there is not a lot wrong with it. The only explination could be my strength, weight or driver. I gained about 20 pounds since I got this driver a year and a half ago (im not fat just getting stronger and growing). It is a nike SQ 5000 with a ladies flex. Remember I was younger and weaker when I bought this. I do not know if I am swinging too hard or if the flex has anything to do with it. Anything you know about how to fix a slice, please tell me I will listen to anything and I will try it. Thanks a ton and hopefully you guys can help me out here.

If I aim left it will start left then just slice like a mother and end up in the trees or rough on the right side but if i start facing the fairway straight on it will slice a little bit to the right and then just pick up and fly to the right it is terrible.

Okay, you're probably sliding on the ball.

At address is the ball positioned forward in your stance (in line with your left heel) or more centered?

I have the ball not directly at my front foot but i have it about an inch behind my front foot.

Without seeing your swing this is just a guess of course but if you're starting the ball while lined up down the middle to the middle right then slicing I'd say that you have the ball just a bit more centered in your stance and you're sliding your weight forward ahead of the ball at impact. The ball a bit farther back is the cause of the push or mini-block and the slice is an open club face certainly suggesting your weight is ahead of the ball at impact and your club face is still open at impact.

Stand against your couch with you left leg in your living room (if possible) and swing a wedge. The couch will prevent you from sliding ahead of your initial position and see if the feeling is different than your normal swing. If you feel constricted then you're probably sliding forward at impact causing the club head to lag behind and be open at impact.

I slice because I tend to dip my right shoulder in the downswing and don't release the club. Bad habit from years of being told to swing inside-out to avoid a slice !

    • I would recommend spending some time at the range and film your swing. You can post it in the Member Swings thread. At the range, you can figure out how to control the driver a bit more. We can offer some pointers once you post in the Member Swings section.
    • With the H4 or the watch, you tag the club before hitting by putting the tag next to the device. The tag is on the club butt end. After a round, you don’t really think about it too much. You just do it. I don’t know how far you are from @phillyk, but he may know an instructor in your area.
    • So the biggest issue right now is marrying the hands down with an athletic turn. I can get stuck not turning. Things get interesting from there.

    • Hi everybody!  I am new to the golf game. I have taken some lessons and got fitted for clubs a couple of months ago. I usually score between 110-120 for 18 holes.  I bought a Stealth driver last year and have been hitting consistently with it 210-230 yds on the simulator. But when I take it out on the course, every drive is a severe slice!  I played 18 holes yesterday at the club where I belong. I removed the driver from my bag and used the 5 iron to drive with. I hit straight 16 out of 18 drives, 180 - 200 yds. I used the 5i - putter for the rest of my game.  I ended the day with a 92. Question: Does it make sense for me to continue playing with irons only until I get further along in my game before I reintroduce the Driver and woods again? Or should I continue to struggle with the Driver and woods and shoot in the 100’s again? To me it’s a no brainer, but for those more advanced I am interested to get feedback.
