I think in my game I need to be more consistent. For example, I might hit a iron shot off target in the greenside bunkers, then the next hole stick a iron from 180 yards to 5 feet. Is there any drills to do to help make a more consistent solid contact with the ball?

Thanks.

I don't know of any drills, but a playing lesson with a pro might notice any tendencies you have that causes you're inconsistency. I know it helped me!

This is the Holy Grail of golf that you are searching for. Let us know if you find it. Most of the guys on the PGA Tour would like to know too.

"If only I could just hit every shot within 5 feet of my target... there must be a drill..." Haha

Eh, I would say most of them are pretty damn close. A couple of bad shots out of the 60-70 a round ain't bad.

He never said that, he was wondering if there are any drills that make it easier to hit the ball squarely. He never said every single time.

Well, OK, but he framed the question by saying that he occasionally hits his approach shots into green side bunkers, and he wants to stop that.

Even Tour pros hit the ball into green side bunkers on occasion, about twice per round. In fact, I've seen statistics that say the average approach shot to the green on Tour stops 25 feet from the pin.

You have to groove your individual swing. Try to make your swing as simple as possible in your mind. I focus on nothing but my weight shift and tempo. I let my body turn happen subconsciously as I move my weight back and let the hands drop naturally as I turn/move forward with me weight. Don't force your swing and trust it. This is the path to consistent contact daniel-son.

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
