I always thought thecluboutlet was actually owned by Nickent. They make some quality stuff but everyone knows they arent going to be able to weather the storm.

I think you can make a business case that something like thecluboutlet.com undermined sales of new Nickent clubs. The target Nickent customer (imho) is someone that wants a quality club, but at a lower price point than Ping or Callaway offerings. thecluboutlet (being linked off the Nickent site) may have given that customer (who is price conscious, but also wary of getting ripped off) enough confidence to purchase a used club rather than a new one (thus eating into sales of new clubs.)

As far as not making it, I think companies like Adams and Nickent are in an interesting position. Their clubs (as far as playing quality) have gotten reviews just as good as the higher priced clubs (Ping, Callaway, etc...) A down economy might open the door for Adams and Nickent with a lot of customers that still want a quality club, but find their budgets tightened. Instead of killing these companies, this economy presents an opportunity for these types of companies to grow (if they play it correctly.)

I have the 4dx #3 ironwood.

The only complaint I have is that it has a closed face at address and I am not liking that at all now. ( should have noticed that before I bought it, nothing against the club at all)

I prefer square and maybe even open a degree or two.

However, as for it's quality, I agree with everyone here...they make one helluva hybrid.

I have a few Nickent clubs as you can see in my sig. They are the easiest to hit and most consistent clubs in my bag. Seriously I've been blown away at how good these clubs are. I recent switched from blades to my Ping G5 irons and they are pretty forgiving but nothing like my Nickent hybrids which just go far and straight almost every time I pull them out of the bag.

My dad has two Nickent hybrids and he is obsessed with them haha. He bought them for $15 each at the Nickent factory store near LA.

Thinking about purchasing a 4/5dx 2 or 3 hybrid.

Can't beat the price.

Unfortunately, books for this semester will run me around $900 used so I'll have to wait till Santa comes along.

I finally gave in and went to dicks after class today and got a #4 3dx ironwood with stiff shaft, can't wait to try it out. Now I've almost got my bag where it needs to be, one more to go...

I can't talk about the irons or fairway woods at all.
However, I have hit my friends driver and I have a 4DX 3h. These clubs are amazing for the price. I have heard Nickent is right up there with Adams when it comes to hybrids, and I couldn't agree more... although I have never hit a Bobby Jones, but have heard only great things as well. The drivers feel amazing and inspire confidence - I almost bought that driver from him until I hit the Sumo.

I know Nickent went bankrupt in 2009 then  Dick's took over the product. Is there any preference for the "original" pre-BK clubs over what is on the market today?

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

I can't say. My two Ironwood Hybrids are pre bankruptcy. The old ones are awesome though. I assume the new ones aren't as good but that's just a wild guess.

Nickent was well regarded for hybrids during the early 2000s, but hit bankruptcy in 2009. Nickent had a strong following on the Nationwide Tour.

In 2011, Dick's bought the Nickent brand, and after a year of development started selling Nickent clubs at Dick's and Golf Galaxy.

Earlier, Dick's had bought the Walter Hagen brand in 2002/2003 time frame.

I have the 3dx Ironwood DC 20* 3 hybrid and a 3dx Utility DC 5/FW (19*) hybrid.  They are great clubs.  I hit the Utility especially well, so much easier than hitting a 4 iron.

When did you buy them? I'd like to buy some vintage (pre BK) ones. eBay has a lot but you can't ever tell how old they are. Golf clubs are confusing like that. Wish they were more like cars.

I bought the Utility on sale from Golfio.com 4 or 5 years ago and bought the Ironwood from a guy from my league 2 or 3 years ago.

The 3DX, 4DX, and 5Dx hybrids and fairway woods are pre-Dicks Sporting Goods...any higher numbered models of hybrids are Dicks made.  I don't know what you mean by pre BK...

I've got the 4DX in 14 regular flex and 15.5 senior flex, pre Dick's, love them.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
