President Cup is coming to Harding Park! I'm excited to go see all the pros play and such. Is anyone here from Norcal gonna attend the event?

I cannot believe that Adam Scott was picked for the team. He has done zip all year and Sergio who has been playing better this last month was left off.

Sergio is from Spain which is in Europe. That makes him eligible for the European Ryder Cup team and not eligible for the Rest of the World Presidents Cup team.

Although I agree that Adam Scott shouldn't have been picked because he's been awful this year and I doubt he can magically learn how to putt before the Presidents Cup roles around.

OHHHHH, sorry blond moment, I had Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup mixed up. You are indeed right Sergio is ineligible to play at this tournament. As for Adam Scott, maybe this chance given to him by Norman will get his game back on track.

Being new to the golf world I didn't know about either of these cups. After researching it sounds like the 1999 Ryder Cup was an amazing thing to experience. I wonder if anything like that will happen again in either cup, it sounds like the President's Cup at least is not all that popular.

If I can make the time I might head up from San Diego and spend a night. My brother has invited me to attend it with him, he'd pick me up at the airport and take me straight there if need be ..... -> He's played the course and would be able to give me lots of good insights.

He'd be returning my invite to him to the Buick here in SD a couple years ago. We had a great time. I'm sure we would again, what's not to like?

It's a mess, Harding as you know is in a residential area of SF, hardly any parking to begin with. Luckily my friend lives walking distance to the course so I'm thinking telling her to throw a bbq and pre-round party before we head over.

I'm going Friday & Saturday. Just got my ticets in the mail a few days ago... very excited!

Parking will be tough. They are selling advanced parking passes on Ticketmaster... I think they are using lots on SFSU and the SF Zoo. The parking is pricy (like $25 after all the Ticketmaster fees), but I think the only other legit option is using public transit. They've arranged shuttles from BART and MUNI. I wouldn't rely on finding any day-of parking anywhere close to Harding.

My tickets came with a brochure on the setup and layout... they've done some fun stuff to the course. The 9 hole executive course has been turned into the practice area for the pros. And they've changed the back 9 holes around... the scenic par-4 18th is now 15 or 16, and they've changed one of the front 9 par 5's into a 4. They're setting it up for some major scoring for these guys... should be exciting.

I'm going on Saturday. From what I know they are using SF State for parking, I think it was $20 on ticketmaster, my cousin purchased one. Get there as early as possible if you want a space, otherwise you could be walking from 19th and Judah.

I can't wait, this will be my first pro event. Looking forward to seeing some of the best in the world live.

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?
    • Day 539, April 23, 2024 Mirror work once again. When I get back to swings, I'll just do it A. LOT.
    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
