I've been playing my 845 irons for almost 16 years and still love them. I've reshafted a few and put new grips on every few seasons (up until recently I was only playing a few times a year). They were a complete set when I got them - while I've replaced the woods along the way as I found better performing options, I've yet to find irons that feel better to me. Believe me, I've tried over the years and there have been a few sets that I liked as much but nothing that I could say I truly liked or felt performed better (at least enough to sway me to move my 845s to second string). I recently joined a local club and will be playing much more regularly thus really putting my 845s to the test. In the last month or so, I've felt my swing and ball striking get much better and am noticing about 10-15 more yards from my irons. At this rate, I'm sticking with them until my handicap drops to the low teens or I'm otherwise convinced that my game is beyond the capabilities of the 845s. Maybe then I'll grab those Mizuno M-60s... Good luck. Hit 'em well.

WOW, they look gorgeous. What did the refinish cost?

Friend of mine did them for me when he worked for "Scratch Golf". IIRC I gave him $50.

In 1992, I went to the golf shop to buy a set of 845's. They were out, and I even waited for the UPS truck to run. The UPS truck brought no 845's, so I came home with a set of Titleist DCI's that I still have. A couple of weeks ago, I was in Goodwill and bought an 845 sand wedge for $5, and a couple of days later bought a set of 845 Titanium with graphite shafts (minus the 9 iron) for $22.40. Looking forward to trying them out on the course.

Noticed the OP was 2009 but since this is bumped...

My first set of irons was the Tommy 845 classics from Sports Authority for $150.  I enjoyed them for the price and I eventually upgraded to some Pings when I wanted to get serious about my game about 4 months ago

If you like the Tommy Armour 845, these irons should look awfully familiar and they're designed by the same guy who made the 845.

I'm happy to take more pictures of them, as they're the irons I've been using all summer.

HA! Nice catch - I didn't even take notice to that. Oops.

I looked in refurbishing section of the GoldWorks catalog, and this may be the discussion you saw: GW will not regroove chromed irons without stripping off the original chrome first. If you get the head regrooved and rechromed, the clubsmith will paintfill the engravings areas like new.

GolfWorks offers several options in Services & Repairs.

For details, see : http://www.golfworks.com/default.asp?gclid=CJnO3Pa-rbkCFdAWMgodmHMAgA

Thank you. I will book mark this and hope its not too cost prohibitive.

This is an old thread, but thought I'd revive it as opposed to starting a new one.

I have been playing 845 Silver Scot irons for 15 years now.  Spent every dollar I had as a 19-year-old on those irons.  I can't imagine I would see a major improvement in my game with newer irons, so I am sticking with these old friends for now.  I get comments on the course all the time about them.

  • 1 year later...

Hello!

A sunny story of my almost 28 years old Tommy Armour 845. I bought them appr. 1989 when I was stuck to 14 hcp. A few months later I passed 10 in hcp. Lowest was 9,0.

After meeting a beutiful woman who I married and two kids later the clubs was stored in the dark place in our house.

Last year my wife said to me, - why not starting golf again together with me?

My old Tommy Armour 845 came out into the sun again. The Pro almost bend his body in pieces and fell into laughter when he saw my clubs.

Yesterday I shot a 73 round only using the irons. My new hcp turned to be 8,1!

Feels good from Sweden!

I also just purchase a set of Tommy Armour 845 irons, the Ti Titanium face model. I can't find any information about them online. Can anyone identify these irons as authentic, as in, not a "nock off." I'm attaching a couple photos. Thanks for the help.
