i go in layers and that seems to work for me...
thermals/underarmor...
long sleeve tee or turtleneck...
collared shirt/polo...
if its really cold then my next layer is a pullover sweatshirt...
then my pull over jacket...
nfl cap and beanie over cap...
thick socks...
i have winter gloves that i take off and put on my regular golf glove to hit shots

Whenever it's cold outside, a turtle neck is a must to keep your body heat in. Generally, I wear a light polo or tee shirt, with a turtle neck on top of that. When it is breezy, I will also wear a sleeveless jacket on top of that. If I wear a regular jacket, I can't swing as freely as too much layer on my arms is not conducive to my swing.

Its all about layers.
When its 40-50* I will just wear a sweatshirt over a t-shirt and slacks. Its plenty to keep me warm.
When its 30-40*, I will wear a beanie (because a lot of heat escapes out the top of your head) and then I will wear a sweatshirt and a long-sleeve shirt under it and then I will wear some kind of cold weather golf gloves.

I am big fan of the Under Armour themal compression fit turtle neck - keeps me very warm with little over top of it. Layers is must as I tee of early and on hour into the round I have to peel a few things off. If it is raining the FJ rain gloves work great!

most of the time in the winter I wear shorts and short sleeve shirt. Once in a while I have to wear pants, a long sleeve shirt and maybe a hoodie. Less often than that, I wears long handles under my pants, two long sleeve shirts, and a rain coat, with a sock hat and some gloves. If it colder than that, I go to a strip club and then it's all about titties and beer. (also a good song.. Google it).

Man, I love Central Texas in the Winter.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Well said! Similar weather in SoCal, but I layer differently than you except we both agree on the "coldest" level.

We don't get the random rainfall you guys get in TX. I still haven't played a round in the rain, I really want to though!

Layer with a inner mock and sweat shirt, cashmere if possible, outer wear and sometime thermo under wear depending on how cold knit cap, you lose 80% of your heat from your head and finally a handwarmer and hot tea or hot chocolate

Mock, a light sweater or LS polo, and windbreaking shell. Thats about it. It works for me down to freezing temps. I walk even when i do play in the winter, so you keep warm by just doing that. Below 40, ill probably wear some thermal leggings as well.

What do you guys wear in the winter.

What you were in 50-55 degree weather- I wear shorts and a wind shirt.

What you were in 30-50 weather- Jeans and a fleece with a t-shirt underneath. If it gets close to 30 or lower it is usually fleece with long sleeve t-shirt of some kind. If windy a jacket over the fleece.

Depends. Winter here can be 40's, or it can be 70's. We had 15 inches of snow late last week, tomorrow I'm playing and the temperature will be in the mid 70's... so I'll be wearing shorts. Most often slacks or (gasp) jeans in the winter, and my upper wear depends on the sun and wind and temperature. I usually layer so I can adjust as need be.

I go for the 'deer hunting redneck' look when it gets in the 40's and below, namely a ski cap, blue jeans, and a thermal under a cheap collared shirt (my good ones seem to get torn up when I wear a thermal under them, not sure why). As long as you're comfortable and can play well, it doesn't matter how you're dressed in winter - usually when it's cold enough you'll pretty much have the course to yourself anyway.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
