I can hit the driver really well but I really struggle to hit the irons. I always keep my eyes on the ball in the middle of my stance but i have trouble getting it in the air. im like 50/50 all the time. Sometimes it will roll and sometimes it will go high in the air. I been watching and reading and it looks like I do not lean over enough in my stance and feels like I am too far from the ball, but if I go more closer it doesnt feel comfortable.

any tips?

I think you are focusing on getting the ball up. This is probably why only half the time you are doing so. Golf is a game of opposites. Hit down and the ball will shoot up. You will also have a much higher chance of getting a solid strike.

Try it out. Good Luck

You can practice a drill that will help your iron game. The key to getting the ball into the air with your irons is to hit the ball solid on the club face and what you might be doing is hitting the ball thin or several grooves low on the club face.

The drill that I was doing the night before my round is to to hit onto the couch. I have my daughter wire princess house that I unfold and use as a net and hit into the princess house.

I will chip focusing on making solid by the flight of the ball and the sound of the click when it leaves the club face. If you hit it thin the ball will not get up in the air. This drill will reveal any flaws in your swing. I try to watch my take away and make sure that I pick up the club on a circular arc on my take away or backswing, this give me consistent solid contact. What you are doing is taking a mini golf swing and working on the hitting zone.

If it is helpful post a video of your swing and let us evaluate your technique.
If you visualize the swing as an arc and your ball is just before the bottom of the arc this might help your thought process and goal of your swing, in particular your backswing or take away.

    • At Bent Tree, right? I'm surprised the greens were that slow. I played right around the corner at Northstar and their greens were normal speed. Slightly soft/receptive but not overly so and not slow or shaggy by any means.

    • So, last night was the first night of golf league. First tee I stuck in the ground this year. First time hitting a ball off the grass. Left my putter on my indoor putting mat in the office so I was able to borrow one of my pal's spare putters. I putted poorly, but not the putters fault. Took me forever to realize the greens were very very slow. We've had tons of rain and the greens were downright furry. I also went from my car to the clubhouse to the first tee. No warm up.  It took me a bit to get it going. But finished solid. I think I had four penalty strokes in the first 5 holes.
