Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I have a set of CG7s, launcher 3 and 5 fairway woods, and a 50, 54,and 58 cg14 wedge. When i made my purchase i hit the woods and irons with several others and Clevelands felt just as good and performed just as well. There current promotion kinda sealed the deal. Very glad i did. More comfortable with the irons and hitting them well...feel great. I can hit my fairway woods farther than previous clubs...5 for about 240-250 and 5 about 220-235...just got their hybrid to fill my 205-220 gap. Wedges are fantastic as well, have gotten used to them and constantly hitting the greens now from 110 in. I made my purchasing decision because they seemed like the best value for the range of club sets i was looking at...good reviews and great prices at the local golf shop...plus a bought the woods first and loved them right off and figured I would get the same quality and performance out of irons and wedges. I am glad i went with the Clevelands and would purchase them now even if price strategy changed and they were a little more than the other sets i was looking at...oh yea...i get a new set next year or the year after too. I hit the Mizuno's 23, TM burners, callaways 22, cobras, and adams. Only one i didnt hit and wanted to were the pings...really wanted there G10 hybrid. Clevelands felt as good as the Mizunos and was right there in distance with all except the Burners that seem to hit consistently farther do to the loft degrees. Problem is, for some reason i could not get a consistent hit out of the TM 09 burners. To sum it up...Cleveland are great clubs (woods, hybrids, irons, and wedges) at typically great prices. I have not used there driver as my first new club was a TM burner driver...but friend has there new driver, not the launcher, and loves it as well. Fact is, he went out and got the launcher fairway woods once he hit mine and is looking at getting a set of the CG7 tours. Hope this helps and if you are looking at new clubs definitely consider the Clevelands.

I use the following Clevelands:

15* launcher 3w w/ Red S shaft - I love it, but it cost me some money. I had to get a new driver. I didn't go with the Launcher driver though as I didn't like the long head (clubface to back) - went with a PING G10. Classic 2 putter - picked it up in late August. My lag putts were instantly closer and I stopped having to plumb bob on the short putts. I'm looking forward to a full season with it. Although I didn't buy them, I hit a gazillion balls at a pro-shop simulator with the CG7 Tours with S shafts. Ultimately, the overly busy aesthetics (too many badges on the back) turned me off. The awful stock grips probably didn't help. It was probably for the best though - the results were okay, but they felt lifeless in my hands, if that makes any sense.

I play a lot of Cleveland. Used to play them exclusively.

I started with a Launcher 400 which I liked a lot. It was just too small given today's average drivers. That said, I still pull it out occasionally, and is just as long as my R7, and far more workable. That said, it wasn't very forgiving.

My irons are Cleveland TA6. I absolutely love them, and many who have tried them have switched over for Cleveland irons. Very long, very forgiving and well balanced irons. As a mid to high handicapper, they work well for me, though I want to move to the Bridgestone J36 at some point.

I also play Cleveland wedges, the Tour 900 and CG10. Not much to say here. I love both, though I think I'll be stepping up to new wedges in a different spread this season.

I have nothing bad to say about the company. Even their gloves are awfully nice. Every experience has been quality, and I've never felt behind in technology, even with sticks a few years old.

What specifically are you looking at?

I've played cleveland wedges for the past 15 years. Currently have CG10's which have been excellent. Overall I think cleveland make really good performance wedges and irons. They can be a little quirky in the design stakes though (what were those irons from the mid 90's anyone?).

I tried a Launcher driver last year and also a HiBore XL, I liked both but not enough to part with my money.

Just check out my sig below. There is a set of Cleveland wedges that "Santa" is hiding in the upstairs closet, that will be added next month. I think that Cleveland is one of the most under-rated makers. My driver, hybrid, and putter are excellent in price, performance, and quality. The only thing is, I won't be playing their irons any time soon. I tested several models and my 9 year old Titleists are better.

In my  Warbird Hot stand bag:

you are 100% correct. those 990's are AWESOME irons and there is NO reason to buy new irons when those are better than pretty much anything made today

As I stated in the Cleveland wedges and irons thread, I play a Hibore XLS driver, Hibore XLS 5 wood, am soon to get Hibore XLi irons, and a 60 degree CG14 wedge.

I started out with the driver because it was the cheapest one that Academy had in stock. I loved it, so I got the 5 wood after that, then the wedge, etc. Their technology is right up there with the other guys and their prices are fair. Love their stuff.

In My Bag:

My sig has the specific details but I love my wedges especially. Good spin and great feel and touch.

As for the driver, well I hadn't really made the connection till I really thought about it. Originally bought it as it was on sale and got some good reviews!

I will certainly consider the irons when its time to upgrade but that won't be for a while yet...

I have a Cleveland Launcher Driver and the 3 and 4 fairway woods. I like them but Cleveland clubs tend to be more "hollow" and feels a bit more solid and thick on the contact. I like them alot and prefer them to Nike clubs. I can generate good head speed and they feel quite natural. I am looking at their sand wedge, but only after my Titleist Vokey wears down.

Also my buddy LOVES the balls now, I still have not switched.

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
