I think we've all had experiences at the range or on the course where we've tried certain swing thought and had some immediate success. Next time you try it though, it doesn't seem to work as well. However, every now and then you do find something that does work.

So my question is, you know a swing thought really works when...

- it works more than one visit to the course or range.
- it's off of grass and not a mat.
- it actually works on a golf course.
- it's not illegal.

What else?

You got me laughing at the "it's not illegal" thought.

The post, though, raises a good point: What are band-aids and what are effective swing thoughts.

I've been hung up on the same two thoughts for the longest as they seem to be the source most my errant shots: smooth tempo and maintain height throughout the swing.

The one that's really helped me recently is standing further away from the ball and being more bent over at address. I have a tendency to crowd the ball and stand a little too up right. This is an easy swing thought since it's a setup issue.

But sometimes swing thoughts like standing farther away from the ball only last for a little white in helping you, and then it gets worse a little later, because even though you don't realize it, you're standing further and further away from it. So after a while of having that swing thought, you'll be standing further away from it, and then you get that swing thought, and back up even more. Does that make sense? I've noticed that with myself actually. Some swing thoughts work for a little while until you achieve what you were trying to do, and then while your doing it, you have that swing thought and it gets progressively worse again. So I guess what you need to do is to realize you are doing what your swing thought implies, and then stop having that swing thought after that.

P.S. I'm writing this in school so you know it's not going to make any sense.

P.P.S. If you understood any of this I applaud you.

What sometimes works for me is going thru a couple of practice swings thinking about all the corrections/reminders I'm supposed to do...but then when it's time to hit, try to make my mind blank and forget about all those things. I think it's a mind-body automatic kind of thing. Doesn't work all the time, but enough that I still try it quite a bit.

    • I have a putting mat in my office. It's 9 feet long almost 4 feet wide. I've drawn a line down it in order to practice hitting my line and stuff. Works fine for what it is.  While I'm not a fan of lining up a line on my golfball for every putt. I think for practice sessions it can have a lot of value.  To me this product makes sense. This is the first time I've seen it. It showed up as an add on the right side of the TST webpage. What do you all think? PuttAIM Laser Training Aid Get ready to dominate the greens like never before. PuttAIM Golf is a golf putting aid that uses laser technology to help you improve your game. This device works to ensure your putts are aligned properly and on track...
    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.

    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
