RANT!!!!! CALLAWAY FTI-Z Driver

i have the R9, R9 460 and just got the superfast, i tell you, i still know i hit the ball better and farther with the FTI-z. i think the problem lies with the drivers made for lefties........

I don't have a FT-iZ, but I have never had an issue with my FT-9 or any of the other clubs I have had. I am just curious if the people having the issues slam the club on the ground after an errant tee shot?

heads up, all of the FTi-z's lasted no more the 7-8 rounds so you might be good, i hope!

Sucks that people are having quality issues with the FT-IZ. I've had mine since it came out in the summer and have no issues whatsoever. (knock on wood) I am a righty though. ;)

That is pretty interesting that its only been on the lefty clubs. I've got 2 rounds on the latest one and no issues yet (keeping my fingers crossed).

Im a righty thats already had problems with 2 ft-iz drivers. But mine is the shaft. It keeps splintering. ugh. This thread is depressing.

THE FUNNY THING IS, i would probably go back to the Callaway FTi-Z if the problem was noted and addressed by Callaway, i really did enjoy hitting it...... but for now, im hitting TaylorMade

Callaway obviously hasn't taken care of the problem. I am currently waiting for my fifth - count em, FIVE - driver due to a rattling and/or internally damaged head on a FT iz Tour. Needless to say, the club has been in transit more than in my bag. Wish I could get it's frequent flyer miles. Sure, Callaway keeps sending me new ones but WTF I can't even trust it to get me through  a round. Spoke to them by phone and they acted like it had never happened before and treated me like s***! I don't want another f***ing driver. I want out.

i had the face and back portion separate on my old FTI Tour Driver. After this happened i went down to Dick's and picked up a FTI-Q Tour. A couple of weeks ago it develops a serious rattle inside the head. (owned the driver around 6 months) i took it back to Dick's and after speaking with Callaway they ended up sending a brand new FTI-Z Tour Head to replace the busted FTI-Q head (I-Mix Shaft).

After reading this thread i'm hoping that my new driver doesn't take a dump on me... though i am a righty...

good luck guys,  i ended up getting the Superfast, and now just picked up the Octane, haven't hit the new driver thought  (3 feet of snow in 3 week up here in ny) Although i do miss the FTi-Z  BUT WE WILL SEE..........

Emailed Callaway yesterday just because. It'll be interesting to see what sort of excuses I get this time. Too bad I am not sure how the driver will react when I hit it this weekend in Orlando. I know it rattles but since I've only hit it in a dome I don't know if the performance is also affected on this one yet. What also p***es me off is that even though Callaway sends me a knew driver everytime it takes a crap it doesn't mean I'm getting the same driver - frequencies are probably way different on each one of them. So, the one I hit well three months ago in winning a tourney probably is not going to perform the same as the sixth one they send. It's amazing they wash their hands of the real problem just because they send out a new one. Nobody is accountable. Four hundred bucks is a lot of money to an 18 yr old. It's not like I am able to go out and just invest in something else - wish I could. Fortunately, next year when I get to college the golf program will be able to supply me with something different at little or no cost. Can't wait.

Any chance the left-handed FT-iZ driver guy at Callaway went on sick leave, and a right hander replaced him for a month and messed things up? Just a thought.

I was debating on getting the FT-iz and the Golf Pro at Dick's talked me out of it. He said they've had a lot of complaints from the people who've bought it.

Not to drag up an old thread... just wanted to report i had ANOTHER one blow up last night at the range, this is my 3rd one.  The guys at the local Golf Galaxy are nice enough to let me swap it out for another club.  Heading over there later tonight.

I had an FT-9 that basically the various pieces that are glued on to it started coming off.  I had about 5 rounds with it and maybe two range sessions (80 balls each).  The guy at Dicks blamed it on the cold weather, it happened this past Jan/Feb.  I got a full store credit refund for it so I was happy.  I blame this on Callaway using an overly complicated design assembled in China with an eye for cutting costs.  If you buy one of these drivers and play once a month you'll probably be fine, but their "composite" drivers don't stand up to heavy use.

I used to play a Big Bertha Diablo.  The day after I got it, I took it to the range to try it out.  I didn't smash the club into the ground, either in anger at an errant shot or by hitting way behind the ball. As I continued to hit the driver, I began noticing that the clubhead seemed to be angling more and more to my left. A quick examination proved that the point where the clubhead attached to the hosel was splintered.  I barely touched the clubhead and it fell off.  I took it back to the Golf Stop and they replaced it off the shelf with an identical model.  A few months later, on the 18th hole, the shaft snapped in half about 5" up from the hosel.  Again, I had not slammed the club into the ground in any way.  I take it back to the store and it gets shipped to Callaway, who sends me a new driver.  I take the new driver out to the range that day and the clubhead flew off during the course of regular hitting (again, no mistreatment to the club).  I again went to the Golf Stop, who again sent it to Callaway and got it repaired.  When I picked it up, I handed it right back to the employee and traded it in for credit towards a Taylormade R9.  And for what it's worth, I'm a righty.
