Nice to see KJ come up with a good Masters. Hope it means his game is back to stay for a while.

Attended a clnic of his here on L.I. and he was an entertaining to listen and watch (even with an interpreter), with some valuable advice to offer that's now part of my routine.

I was happy to see him do well, too. But this isn't his best Masters finish: that was in 2004, with a 3rd place (and another Phil victory). I think he held the lead for a bit at that one, too.

Well, (and that’s a deep subject), the Master’s is in the books and now it’s on to the Verison. Harbour Town Golf Links is a beautiful course seeking accuracy from the tee to green. One cannot spray the tee shots. K.J. Choi fits in nicely here. I bag him for the best Driving Accuracy. Putting greens are small, so expect Greens in Regulation to be above norm. Even though the greens are small, they are true and a little on the slow side, depending on the watering scheme. Good putters will have a field day. You should see putts per round averaging about 27.5 or so. I’m giving away all the answers to my props…..lol…Everybody is touting Furyk, hmmm, I don’t think so. He’s been in the pits as of late……The one left stat to bet on is Average Driving. I hate to give away my secrets, but when they measure the “average drive” it’s not for every drive. It’s on one hole on the front side and one hole on the back side….usually a par 5. Damn, you guys are gonna know all the tricks…….See what you can do against the Pro’s……Ya’all come down see me now, hear… and I ain’t from the South.

I gotta say, I was really pulling for KJ on Sunday. Man he was playing flawless! I was really deflated watching him bogey 13. It obviously affected him as well. KJ is solid, particularly at The Masters, wasn't really a shock for me to see him up at the top.

I love KJ. Just a really consistent, solid player. Easy to like too, if you get what I mean. I don't really dislike any golfers, but he's one that it's almost impossible to dislike, you just warm to him.

I love the way he stares at the ball when it's in the air. Always like to see him in contention.

Some where I read that KJ is a really decent person with a strong streak of generosity. I cannot vouch for that but it is the memory I have read about him. If true, I think that is a great thing that adds to his overall impact on the game. I do notice his conduct on the course. He is certainly gentlemanly, and must be very easy to play alongside. I count that as a strong positive in a game with the traditions of golf. He lets his play illustrate his genius and appears very gracious. I like that.

There's a story a few years ago that he was visiting a church prior to a tournament - I think it was the 2005 Greensboro stop, now Wyndham - and promised them 10% of whatever he earned that week. Then he went and won, finding himself with a nearly seven-figure check. The story stood out to me because it reminded me of a similar story involving Jim Thorpe.

It was nice to see KJ play so well, he was a machine through the first 12 holes. Hope he plays well at Hilton Head, the course sets up nicely for him.

For someone who doesn't really understand a lot of golf stats, can you explain what you just posted?

K.J. is one of the more well like pro's on tour, one thing is he doesn't say much because of the language barrier, and a lot of the pros like that, concentration. There are some that talk about everything else but golf while they walk the course, Paul Goydos used have a wondering mind on the course, should we say.

K.J. is having a little trouble keeping his ball on the fairway. But he'll come around, he's doing just ok, as compared to yesterday. He's like a machine, doesn't falter.....K.J. supports an orphanage in Korea and sponsors kids here in the US. Very nice person. yes....he does speak English but is embarrsed to speak all that much.

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
