How far have drivers come since th G2?

I've been using my G2 for several years and am starting to look at getting a new driver. What I'm wondering is how much better are the newest generation of drivers compared to my G2? Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure if anyone here can tell you this. With new technology and some design advances I am sure it would be worth your while to try out some new stuff and decide for yourself. Check out the new hot list for drivers and go hit some of those at the range or at a demo day, some of the demo days have a tracking monitor that can tell you how far you were hitting so you can decide for yourself if you need a new driver.

Well......I've got a G2 with a solutions shaft and tip weight. I've tried a G5 and a G10 driver with Aldila NV shaft and stock shaft respectively. I can not detect improvement over the original. just MHO

IMO, none. The club head can't exceed 460 cc's, the CORE can't exceed .83. The only difference is square vs traditional head design. The square headed drivers tend to be more stable. The difference is in the shafts and it will make a noticable difference if you have the correct flex and kicking shaft, along with correct driver loft for your swing. A good tech with a launch monitor will be able to do this for you, for some money of course.

That article is a joke. Technology peaked when they introduced 460 CC heads and .830 COR. There is nothing special about new equipment. I recently bought a FT 9 and carried it for about 2 weeks. I put it away in favor of a cleveland launcher comp with the same degree of loft and the stock stiff shaft. I hit them back to back and there was no more ball speed with the "new" technology. The magizines are propaganda for the top manufactures. They will never promote any clubs except the ones that buy there advertising.

There are many touring pros using old drivers and they get everything for free.

Go try some new drivers and see how they feel. If you are getting a more accurate ball flight and you are hitting the ball father than your g2 then toss the G2. If not then just look to get your G2 reshafted with something new. I think the shaft if more important than the head of a club eventhough the club head is still very important.

G2 is an outstanding stick!!!!!

The biggest growth has been in the shafts. There may be a new shaft that'd work better for you.

For what it's worth I to have the G2 w/ Aldila NV shaft too, and the day I was demoing it the Ping rep was there with the new G5 at the time, and after watching me, he said there was nothing I would get with the G5 that I wasn't already getting with the G2. Now I understand this was a few years back and they have sence come out with 2 more new ones, but I play with guys that are just as comparable in my skill level, even with their new top of the line Drivers, G15, Super tri, etc I still out drive them..So like thay say if it aint broke dont fix it, I think to many people get caught up in have the latest and greatest as opposed to what works best for them, imo..

Go to a demo day, get fit there for different shafts, and get an idea of what you hit farthest or straightest. The customizable drivers (Nike VR, TM r9) are nice, as they can custom fit you for lie angle and trajectory. If at the end of the day, you are making much better golf shots, go for it. If not, keep the Ping. There's nothing wrong with your old driver, just because it's old.
