I switch between my Muzino MP 11s and my Apex Edge...love them both. Have looked for a new set, but can't find anything I like better. I tale care of my clubs so they look almost new except for a little bag chatter.

Talk about these clubs which are beautiful to look at and a joy to hit. Apex of any vintage, but pure Apex, please - Edge, Plus, FTX, etc. are different clubs.

Apex PCs and 95 Apex (channelbacks) - the short irons are a bit too big on the channelbacks and they have a hint of offset too - no wonder BH didn't want to release those.

I you haven't pured an Apex 2-iron, you haven't lived - just kidding - I really like them, but they're not magical or anything.

My first and last set until 2005 were apex pc's replaced by the FTX's. I loved the PC's, still have them though many grooves are missing in the scoring irons. I had the 2 iron, probably hit that club twice, must have been under a low hanging branch. :)

A set of Mizuno mp68's on the way.

I always loved the Hogan and MacGregor irons. If I didnt have the ole Tourney's in the bag, I'm sure there would be a set of Apex's. I hope Callaway continues with the quality of the Hogan's.

Now that the thread is rolling, let me tell my story. I played golf through college, but after i graduated I was too busy with career and family to play more than a round every other year or so. Really! So when I was getting ready to retire I thought I'd get my golfing skills polished off again. The second lesson I had, the pro looked at my 1960 Wilson blades, and said, "You need new irons. These just won't do any more."

So I went to a golf shop where they have about everything that is made, and the guy helping me grabbed about seven different kinds of irons, and when I passed by the Apex's (this was in 2003), I thought, "This is the one I want." It came down to the Apex and the Ping i3+. Both felt great and I loved the ball flight, but compare the looks of the i3+s with the Apex and it's no contest.

I just love these things. When you hit a good shot you're rewarded both by the feel in your hands and by the high, penetrating flight of the ball. I want to be playing them when I'm 85. I clean them, heads and grips after very round.

I played college golf in the '70's with Apex irons (which are still in the garage)...Like you I got away from the game for the "kids years" but a guy in my league was getting rid of some Apex Edges and I took them 2 years ago for $100 and a few beers. Love them!! Just got them re-griped with GP Tour Velvets...sweet! I use a mizuno 3 iron but the rest 4i-PW are awesome.

Some people say the last real Hogans were forged in ~ 1989. Some say it was even earlier. What the #$% do they know, eh?

I went to a Nike demo day last year and the rep asked me what irons I played. I said Hogan Apex, and he gave me a 4-iron and said, "Try this." Honest, contact felt exactly like an Apex. When I gave back the club to him, he said, "I thought you'd like that one. The guy who designed it used to work for Hogan." Of course, I forgot what the model was, but at least we know that Hogans live.

Probably just means they closed the plant in the US and moved production to China. All this golf crap is made there.

Many purists argue the Apex line ended when they were no longer forged in the US. Would people buy Mizuno, Epon, or Miura irons forged in China? Actually, I can't prove they aren't?!?!

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
