33/55 and the back nine is the much "easier" nine (if you can hit a golf ball).

On the back nine there are 3 holes where there is a good possibility of hitting the ball in the water (if you suck) and 3 more holes where it's almost impossible to hit it badly enough to find the water. I probably broke a course record by hitting it in the water on all 6 holes where it's possible and in the woods on 2 of the other holes.

Went home and hit 100 balls in the yard and never hit a single shot as badly as any I hit on that back nine (go figure).

My front/back 9 scores are usually pretty consistent.  Where it comes off the tracks looks more like this:

Holes 1-6 played at +8

Holes 7 - 15 played at +2

Holes 16-18 played at +5

Always have a really nice stretch of about 9 holes sandwiched between a crappy start and finish.  Sigh ... it's always something.

The one that sticks out in my mind was 42 - 32 in a tournament during my high school days. Started the round bogey - bogey - double. Started the back nine eagle - birdie - birdie.

As far as disparities going the other way, I've blocked out those painful memories.

I just did 37/55.  Complete mental meltdown, probably cuz 37's are pretty rare for me.  I love/hate this game (respectively).

When you're having a great round, then suddenly find yourself teeing it up on the teebox... but hitting five, you know you've got mental game problems.

My nemesis of late.  37/48 a few weeks ago.  Infuriating. Much better when it's flipped.  I'd have been a helluva a lot happier with a 48/37.

Last time out. 52/41.  Showed up early Saturday morning trying to get out as a single and the starter tells me there are five foursomes headed out starting in 10 minutes (what he doesn't tell me is that there is no one behind them). No warm up, just a few stretches, and went out while it was still a little dark with another single.  Shot 6,6,6,6,6,9 on the first 6 holes.  Thought about leaving the course and my clubs there at the tee box on the seventh but glad I didn't, once I kind of mentally wrote off the round I started actually playing decent golf, funny how that happens.

36/51 today. I played the back first and had triples on 10 and 11. I wanted to stay under 90 so I convinced myself I'd shoot 38 or better on the front. I got my first back-to-back birdies and a personal best of three birdies in the round. I guess it just goes to show that you should never give up on a round.

50 - 40. Started out cold, overcast. Day warmed up and was mid-80s on the back 9. I thought it was over on 17 when I sliced my drive onto the opposite side of the 18th fairway. 17 was a par 5. Second shot went back onto 17 in the rough. Put the third shot on the green but left an 80 foot putt. Lagged to 5 feet and sank it for a par. 18th. Hit a 250 yd drive then my 9 iron to 3 feet from the hole. Missed the putt by that much. Tap in for par.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
