I played Timberstone when I was visiting my grandpa and wow best couse I have ever played. It was so gorgeous. I played well too. What are people's thoughts on Timberstone?

I had high expectations for Greywalls and thoroughly enjoyed it...great shape and incredible views with lots of elevation changes. However from a golf standpoint I thought TimberStone had more of a wow factor. Only negative was the 4 greens that were in really bad condition.

Sweetgrass was nice too but definitely a distant third to the others.

Well, Dead Thread Revival Time.

I've played most of the muni courses in the Mid-Michigan area. My favorite would be The Timbers in Frankenmuth, MI.

When we hit the cabin Up North, Black Forest/Wilderness Valley is 2 mins up the road. I've even snowmobiled by that course.

I'm not a fan of high dollars rates so if its ~$45 or lower, I'll most likely play it.

I haven't played The Timbers but have always enjoyed the nearby Fortress. Black Forest is great. Designed by Tom Doak and very tough.

Have played Oakland Hills and TPC Michigan.  They weren't too bad.  Want to try Orchard Lake this summer.

Interesting verbiage. Not too bad? I've walked both and of course Oakland Hills is world class. I am not as impressed with TPC of Michigan due to the required use of wetlands by Nicklaus during the design. Not a great property. I've heard great things about the recent restoration of Orchard Lake CC.

Timber Trace in Pinckney

Huntmore golf course in Brighton

Moose Ridge in South Lyon

Inkster Valley in Romulus

Timber Trace is a favorite of mine. I've played Inkster Valley may times and like many of the holes but a few are pretty weird (11) due to wetlands.

I live in SE Mi. I'm pretty lucky as I've got several great courses in my backyard. Can't believe I haven't seen The Orchards on this list yet...great course. I enjoy all of the local courses in the immediate area The Orchards,Greystone, and since the new management took over Glacier Club is in top notch shape, and very, very reasonably priced. As far as destination golf...I've played a ton... I see Gull Lake mentioned above, I put together a large outing every year on the west side...and these people are top notch. Never met a more accommodating place. I'll list some of my favorites. The Dream and Nightmare(BYOB goes a long way in our group) Red hawk in Tawas The Boyne courses, although way overpriced Island Hills The Gailes is a great change of pace, and you can't beat their package deals. Fountains and Traditions at Garland Little traverse bay for its views

I am in West Michigan so I am biased to some over here. Pere Marquette Trail in Baldwin is real nice. Towards the Lake Old Channel Tail in Montague is real nice. Benona Shores by Silver Lake is my favorite. It is a short course, par 60, but is real pretty and fun.

    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
