I was talking more about a back view but he does have a lot of head movement in the backswing there.

Yeah that's pretty nice. He just needs to avoid the double pleated pants - looks like he's wearing an adult diaper.

The only thing on tour stranger than Rickie Fowler's fashion... his swing!!!

Alright, Daly's pant's and Furyk's swing are pretty scary too, but for sake of the joke, I had to... you get what I'm saying.

Can someone please explain what the hell his swing is about, it looks so all over the place

Wow.

Can't, sorry. Not sure I could, not even if I was halfway qualified, which I'm not.

  • 8 months later...

I wached some more slo mo's of Rickies swing and noticed how much he extends his arms trough the ball, probably more than any other pro on the PGA tour, and he actually lifts his head up right before impact which is also strange

Here a recent swing of Rickie's .  He's been working with Butch Harmon

Quote:
Rickie Fowler has been without a swing coach since Barry McDonnell died in May 2011, but he's been working with Butch Harmon since December and will again Tuesday in Las Vegas.
In Fowler's first tournament after that initial session, he finished T-8 in the Thailand Golf Championship. "We've shared video (since then)," Harmon said. "He's done good work to clean up things in the swing mechanically." With one tour victory in 107 starts, Fowler will make his 2014 debut at the Humana Challenge.
Harmon said to expect a different takeaway, with Fowler's arms more in front of his body, and less rerouting of the club on the downswing. But what has Harmon excited has been Fowler's work ethic and attitude.
"I love the kid," Harmon said. "The thing I like is he's been saying 'I want to be known more for my golf than my clothes and my hat. I want to contend in majors."

Nice.  New swing keeps the slight loop (his natural move) but smooths it out a bit.  Maybe he can be more consistent and less streaky that way?  I'd like to see that.  Always thought he was an easy guy to root for.

Likewise. Ricky does a bunch of good things in life for those less fortunate, and I have become of fan of his lately, and hope he does well this season..

I just don't see him ( fowler) breaking thru to a major win or multiple full field wins, nice guy, looks like he is having fun and appreciates his time in the tour. But he is lacking play to be dominate I afraid.

Lacking play? WTF is that? The guy plays golf, so ya?

Ricky is a pretty average tour player. He has top 50 shortgame and putting, but his long game is near average. Good to see him working with someone on that area of his game. If he can get his iron and driving going then he'd be pretty good.

I can see him winning a major or two. The guy obviously is a competitor. He went toe-toe versus Rory in a playoff and beat him a few years ago.

I assume lacking play = lacking game = falling short of what is required (to win a major or two or have 1-2 tour wins each year) Personally I'd like to see him win big, but I don't think he's "good enough" to be "great". He is such a marketable golfer that I feel that the hopes/exceptions are always a bit higher for him. There are better young golfers coming through the ranks but there are very few that would be a sponsors dream like him. I think people get a bit blinded by the Orange with Ricky. He's good, very good, but there are better prospects who don't get the airtime as the aren't as "colorful" characters.

This is a 120 fps recording of a high fps playback on Golf Channel, so it's "double" high fps. Skip ahead ~30 sec for start.

Nice camera angle Golf Channel

Yeah arms loading more "in front" of him, right elbow a little further away from him at A4.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
