I'm getting pumped for the whitetail rifle season, both here in NH and in ME. Anyone else here a hunter? Not necessarily deer - anything - grouse, antelope, turkey, whatever.

I enjoy hunting as well. In Fact I go deer hunting the beginning of November. Here in New Mexico we have mule deer and elk but we have to get drawn each year in a lottery for a tag. Last year I got drawn for elk this year for deer.

I love to hunt also, but mostly bird hunting. I think next year I am going to start deer hunting again.

Here is a picture of a coyote I dropped from 250-300 yards out while it was running away from me. (luckiest shot if my life lol)

I used to hunt a lot when I lived back in Georgia where I grew up. I haven't hunted much since I left home. My father-in-law keeps trying to take me hunting but he's the type of guy who will eat just about damn near anything and I'm afraid of what we might be cooking up for the evening if I do go hunting with him.

I hunt turkeys. There isn't a day that goes by I don't think about hunting them. Spring gobbler season is like Christmas morning for the adult me. If anyone has a problem with nuisance turkeys eating their bird food or feed plots please let me know. I will travel anywhere. If you hunt turkeys you'll know how they can haunt your thoughts. If you don't hunt 'em, you're missing out!

Use to be, mostly upland birds, but the habitat here in central Kansas has changed drastically and the population of quail and pheasant have fallen to almost nothing. From the time I was 9 or 10, opening weekend (which is this weekend) was a big deal, but I haven't even been hunting in several years. My father's first bird dog and my brother were born a few weeks apart, always teasted my brother that Mom wanted another baby, Dad wanted a hunting dog so they compromised!

I used to be very into hunting. After I got out of the service I wasn't into killing but still really enjoy the stalking. So I took up fly fishing.

I'm with you. There is nothing more fun than walking a lonely stream in the wood with a fly rod in hand stalking that big Brown or Rainbow.

I used to hunt often and enjoyed the stalking, but gave it up a few years ago as didn't see any sense in killing something if you're not in need of the meat. For the record I'm not against anyone else hunting if you enjoy it and am a second amendment advocate. I do believe if you are going to hunt you might try to educate yourself on weapon safety. Another reason I gave it up was the number of people in the field without a clue on how to hunt or do so safely.

I know this is an old forum, but I looked it up after the mini-convo in the avatar thread about deer hunting. Thought I'd bring it up and see if any of the more current members are fellow hunters. Myself, I am an avid deer and duck hunter.

I was just down at one of my family's nearby hunting lake/swamp on Monday putting in a new dock in preparation for waterfowl season. Can't wait!

Since I was in on that little OT deviation, pretty obvious that I hunt.

I'm probably more of a duck hunter than anything else. I was lucky enough to grow up in the Mississippi flyway, which I think has the best duck hunting in the country. I'm also a bow hunter, but I typically rifle hunt whenever I go to South Texas. I also like to hunt doves, quail, pheasants, squirrel, and rabbits.

Yep, though I tend to spend more time fly fishing these days because it's something my wife really enjoys too.  I'll still go out and sit in a tree every now and then though.

For those that wonder if we have any decent deer down in Florida, these walked through my front yard this morning.  Out of season of course.....

"No, Mr. Game Warden, the deer didn't have that gunshot wound when it ran full speed into the side of my house. I thought it humane to put it out of it's misery, though."

There's a group of 8 bucks that have been running around together for the last few weeks.  Never seen anything quite like it before.  2 of them have significantly better racks than these three here, and all of them are better than the pretty respectable 10 pointer that I have hanging on the wall in my office.

Sigh......

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?
    • Day 539, April 23, 2024 Mirror work once again. When I get back to swings, I'll just do it A. LOT.
    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
