  1. 1. Do you have HDTV? (see first post for clarification)

    • Yes, I have HDTV programming.

    • Nope, no HDTV here.

I just created this thread and poll because, today, I can put "yes."

Clarification: By HDTV, I don't mean the physical television, I mean the programming. Since I'm assuming not many people have HDTV programming without the ability to watch it, voting yes essentially means you have both the programming and the TV itself.

I don't have HDTV currently, but it's definitely on my wishlist for the next year or so. Hopefully I'll have it by this time next year.

Not only would my regular TV shows be better, but it would be great for my XBox 360 as well. I've heard there is a huge difference once HDTV is in the picture.

Huge is an understatement. And for the 360 (or even an old Xbox) you will be very impressed. Going from standard TV to HDTV is like going from dial-up to high-speed. Once you have the better of the two it is impossible to go back.

And HDTV's are so cheap right now I am surprised people still aren't buying them. I will bet that 2007 will be a banner year for HDTV's and HDTV programming.

I'm told the Masters in HD is a sight to see.

That it is. Of course, anything in HD is a sight to see. But yeah, be sure to be sitting down and have a towel on your chest to catch the drool when you sit down to watch Augusta in HD.

I've been lucky enough to have owned an HDTV (and be able to have the programming along with it) for the last three years. The last two years I've watched the majors and other golf tournaments that broadcast in HD. To be able to see the Masters on Saturday and Sunday morning in HD is unbelievable. If you have a decent stereo set up, then you can almost immerse yourself in the broadcast and you'll feel just like you're standing along the fairways. Even the British Open and other majors are stunning when the picture quality is that good. I have a 47" projection screen and I truly envy those that have the new DLP or LCD screens. The resolution capability of those is remarkable.

I can remember watching the US Open and being able to see beard stubble on some of the players. Now, while certain details of players like that isn't something you absolutely want to see (especially to those with any sinus problems), it is a testament to how good of a picture it is.

Congrats on the new toy and here's to enjoying another great golf season to come.

On a side note, college football in HD isn't that shabby either!

I've had HDTV for a while and frankly one of the most disappointing things about it is the LACK of golf programming in HD.

Golf is made for HDTV but it has miles to go before I will be even a little satisfied with the number of events shown in HD.

Wait until you get to see the stretched SD that the broadcasters try to slip in during an HD broadcast, you'll flip.

There is nothing I hate more than watching one shot in HD and then hearing the announcer say something like, "as we move over to Jim Furyk's second on the 10th hole" and seeing a crappy picture.

HD rules... I find i only watch the 10 or so stations i have in HD over the 200 of the other ones, xcept the Golf Channel of course! Most sports & Discovery/Nat Geo channel type stuff are the absolute best. Golf is georgeous, football is unbelievable, as is Nascar. Had it for about 3 years now on a Sammy 46" DLP.

AWESOME! you read my mind I was going to ask if anyone new if the Golf Channel would ever be in HD. I'll have to wait around and see if my provider will end up offering it.

Does anyone know why that happens? It is the worst by the way.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
