How to have your irons sit 5 degrees open like Ben Hogan? The opposite of offset?

I would like to have my blade irons sit open at address and not just by having a weak grip. I called nike, callaway, and mizuno to ask if they made any sets or could make any sets like that and they all said no!

I have a loft and like machine and have opened the lofts and increase the flat lie angle and still I would like the club to sit more open. Is there anyone who can help me figure this dilema out?

Only thing I can think about is to rotate the clubhead open. That way you still got the spine of the shaft straight up and aligned with the grip. The same principle as they use on the adjustable drivers today. You can't change it back and forth with a screw of course, you'll have to heat up the head to melt the glue and apply new before mounting again.

Would doing what Bubba does help? He has Ping put the grips on several degree open.

Or am I misunderstanding the question, because I think I may be?

I think the OP wants something a bit more hip sounding than Bubba's common sense grip approach. I wonder if the OP fights a hook (like Hogan did) or if he just had a big glass of Hogan kool aid.

This is what Bernard Langer says about his grips : "Golf Pride Victory. I rotate them to the left 4 degrees. I tried it one day and the ball went straight, so I kept it that way. With my strong grip, it fits in my hand better, too."

The old green Victory is no more to my understanding.

There is a replacement they call v55 or something.  Still has the reminder chevrons but in red I think.

I do fight a hook and hate to see a hook, conversly when I fade I hate to see a slice. I do fight a hook. I lofted my 7 iron up and flattened the lie so that I could hit a 3/4 shot 155-160 yards; that fade I was hitting was very distinctive and felt very easy to do. I want most of my draw swing mechanics I impliment to produce a fade. You cant talk to a hook. You can give me the most open club and I can figure out how to hook it. The problem is that when I fade it, I do not want to get double crossed, I dont want ot see a hook or even a slight pull when fading.

Nike said the make a special order to 1 degree open in their irons and that is as far as I got. I want something similar to Hogans specs. the most puzzling thing right now to figure out is how to get the irons to have a negative offset or sit 5 degrees open at address.

I recently put one on a old 1 iron, just because it seemed like a good idea. It's a lot rougher than the regular Tour Velvet Cord.

Why do you want something similar to Hogan's specs?

Hogan Kool-Aid? More like Hogan LSD.

1) I would like to take the left side out of play 2) If the greatest ball striker of all time used 5 degree open clubs, I would like to try them. Everyone should want to try them. SOMEONE SHOULD MAKE THEM. I cant understand why it would be soooo hard to accomplish this.

The solution to taking the left side out of play should not be opening your clubs 5 degrees.  Furthermore, the bounce and grind of your irons were not designed to sit this open.  You could rotate the clubhead on the shaft (or grip for a near identical effect) but they wont sit naturally at address like this at all.

I'd talk to a pro about your swingpath and impact mechanics before you do something like this.

Because the market for 5* open irons is probably a handful of people.  The market for people who need 5* open irons is probably even smaller.

Ben Hogan did grind his clubs to a negative bounce: while the solution to taking the left side out of play does not lie soley in one place, certainly it was a piece of what made hogans fade so great. I can hit a fade, but am after a specific type fade: the ben hogan fade.

      And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so.

      He shot -5 with a bogey on the last hole. Those Monday Q events are seriously tough to get through. Lots of very very good players play in those, including normally a fair few tour players who've lost their cards, including past winners. It is a small sample size, but he also just broke one of Tiger's records (youngest ever to be ranked one in AJGA if memory serves). He's the best 15 year old in the world at the moment. He's also pretty small and skinny - if he grows and fills out a bit and gets stronger, he could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He may of course also go off the boil and struggle or his swing may not last his growth or something, so it's not like he's odds on to make it or anything like that. I think it will be interesting to see how he progresses and if (big if granted) he progresses well, then he will be quite the prospect.

      At a basic level, you can take those strokes gained numbers and if you know what the baseline strokes to hole out is from each distance, you can figure out how many strokes on average you will take to hole out from any given spot on the golf course. Then you can take that shot zone thing from shotscope and put it down there and see what the average is for each club and each target you choose. That's not exactly trivial to do though even with a computer, so the strategy guides (like LSW) use rules of thumb to make those decisions easier for you to make on the fly. Most of the time you'll come up with the optimal strategy and on the odd occasion when you don't, the strategy you come up with will be pretty darn close to optimal. If you're anything like me, then you'll probably wind up being a little too conservative with both club choice and target. Fear of penalty strokes can make you play suboptimally. Basically it's a bad idea to base your strategy on a shot that might pop up less than 1 in 20 times. If you happen to hit that shot, then today just isn't your day, but the 19 times you don't, you'll be in that much better of a spot.

      That sounds like a small sample size issue. What if the PGA tour event he was trying to get into just happened to fit his game perfectly? Also, he could just be playing hot right now. I’ll put this in the wait-and-see category.
