Tiger Woods will never regain golf dominance

I still can't believe there is talk about Tiger in this fashion. If any of you feel as though you were personally harmed by his infidelities, then perhaps you are a bit too obsessed with someone else's life. I don't know if Tiger will ever return to the form that saw him win nearly 45% of the tournaments he entered, but I still think he will begin to win again and assert himself as the best of all time. There are just a few factors that we need to consider.

  1. The talent pool is extremely deep right now. There is a bevy of world class golfers now that truly know how to win. It will be difficult for Tiger to beat everyone because his dominance is no longer there. Remember when he crushed the ball farther than everyone else? Now there are dozens of guys that either hit it as far or farther than him.
  2. Golf is a mental game. His swing flaws can and will be fixed. That is a given; all he has to do is find the right teacher (where is Butch?). Ever since the whole cheating spectacle, he has not appeared to be the same cocky player. To make it in the professional world, you have to be cocky about your abilities. You have to believe that you belong at the top. Obviously with his resume, he knows that he belongs there but it takes time to get all that chutzpah back. Honestly, right now he looks like the high school student that gets beat up in the hallway all the time. He has that deer in the headlights look and I still think he's a bit too worried about how people view him. I think the sooner he lets that go the better he will be.

How can you not root for Tiger? The guy won the US Open on a fractured leg and then probably had a three way with two porn stars in the hotel later that night. That's freaking awesome!!

I didn't get past that bit. It turns out I've been living a lie and don't truly love golf. Getting on with my life now.

Well Said........why would anybody  wish for arguably one of the most exciting players to watch, to never return to that level play??? did you not enjoy watching Tiger do what he has done over the years?

i know i will never forget those "impossible" shots he made look routine.......

With Woods though, there was an order of magnitude between him in first and the next guy at second. There may have been other golfers who dominated like he did, for long enough stretches to have that kind of lead, but none since the "OWGR" came along, and certainly none for pretty much an entire decade.

That is indeed true, but that means he can lose a lot and still contend highly and re-enforces his chances of remaining high in the world rankings. He may not get back to being his old self, but the issue is whether he'd possibly slip off the Tour altogether. He has a long way down before he's at that level.

Tiger @ Accenture Match Play Championship

Looks like he's still set up over a base to make a ballistic movement and a power movement with the golf swing by innverating his muscles but the problem lies with him making sure that the club, the clubhead, the arms, the torso, and the hips move together.

It could of course be his rhythm which is one of the most difficult things to quantify, obviously empirically. There is of course a resonance, which is kind of the music that goes along with the physics and the angles and the velocity but who knows?

*chuckle*

Maybe Tiger should go to the source of the bulk of his new swing methodology rather than the regurgitator.

Did anyone watch the coverage and how his game was? Better than the recent tournaments or the same? Mostly OK shots, some good shots, some bad ones, that is how it's been for some time now.

His swing obviously didn't click.

Bogey, birdie, double bogey, par, bogey, par, birdie, par, c, c, birdie, par, par, par, par, par, par, birdie. Wayward tee shot on the 19th, causing the final loss. Not terrible, but not good either, playing to par, assuming his conceded holes would've been par.

Don't forget about the role of the proprioceptors, and the electropulse diagnostic transferrance of experience and information from the big toe to the left elbow, which should be concave and then pronated while reading Voltaire.

Personally I think that Tiger's issue is not enough actual golf.  He is not playing in enough tourneys.  Before the "Fall of Tiger" he could pick and choose his tourney and be in position to win it.  Now it seems to me that he has taken so much time away from golf that he just needs to keep playing tourneys.  Like the "regular guys" do.  Again, just my thoughts but I think that if he would play more actual tourneys he would be "back" within the year

I know this is slightly off topic, but I am curious as to what swear word he used on the Golf Channel interview yesterday after his defeat. They wont say it on the BBC as it is not broadcastable for our pure English ears!!

Cheers

He does need to play more. All his buddies say he is clicking in practice, just not in tournaments. Seems to me he needs to be under the gun on a more regular basis to get his confidence back. I didn't get to watch much yesterday but the guys on the morning show on TGC implied he doesn't have his go to 'stinger' shot anymore. For those that follow him, is that true and I wonder what is up with that if true?

I agree with the comment that Tiger need to play more competitive golf.  He seems to be yielding under pressure.  I thought he was getting it back yesterday when he made the putt on 18.  Still have trouble believing what happened on the 19th hole.  He said it himself, he had the momentum and all he had to do was put it in play and apply the pressure.  Amazing he couldn't do that!

It is kinda weird that he doesn't play more. He's said himself many times that he just have to play more. He probably plays and practice a lot in private, but he needs to get the stuff working when playing tournaments. Since it obviously is a mental issue, playing more tournaments would seem clever.

I think you may be underestimating just how much Tiger dislikes losing.

LOL he was funny about it though

"I couldn't hit the fairway, what was it, 200 yards wide?, and I couldn't even hit it'

I truly believe if Tiger starts hitting fairways, he will start winning....the guy is absolute shit when it comes to the driver......when ever he is teeing up I am already thinking about his reaction to hitting it left or right......

His confidence will build for his second shot if he can get the ball in the fairway.

    • I agree with @pganapathy about removing some clubs. I would recommend removing the 2, 3, 4 and 5 irons for now. Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.
