I have never had a problem with letting a friend or colleague hit a club of mine... until a buddy takes a swing of my (new at the time) PING Rapture.  He chips the paint on the top in a spot I have no idea how he even did it... I am pissed, he is mortified so he takes his BRAND NEW Taylor Made.  I mean top of the line Driver and puts it in my bag.  If he was just a random Joe, I might have kept it... but a friend... I just laughed it off.  He still talks about that swing, anytime we play.  Because I still use that driver and it is still the only mark on it.  Live and learn!!!

I'll let a friend hit my club no problem. but complete strangers, no way. I once had someone with a new r7 superquad (years ago of course) and he wanted me to try it and I said no, just cause I didn't want to somehow mess it up.

To the OP, use psychology next time. Just ask to look at or hold the club, if he says yes swing it a couple time and comment on how great it feels.

It's likely he will ask you to hit it then.

Me I wouldn't ask as others have said I probably hit one already. Also I won't let guys whose clubs look worse than mine swing mine. If theirs look better than

I'll tell them that they wouldn't like mine.

But my Son In law is different, half his bag is mine anyway. I'm still waiting for him to replace the Mizuno MX-500 driver he fractured over a year ago.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

This is exactly how I feel about it.  No objections in principle, but there are limits.  A complete hacker is more likely to do some damage, though it's still a pretty remote possibility.

My irons are a bit dinged from bouncing around in the cart (have covers but don't use them) so unless the guy is playing a shot near a rock (which I would never do) they should come to no harm.  Maybe it sounds a bit silly but it doesn't sit right that a 30 hcp'er should swing a forged Mizuno.  That's something that should be earned, like I did.

I'll set someone else try one of my clubs, but I don't let them out of my sight. Also, as posted earlier, its not a bad idea to say, "you break it, you bought it".

I don't really see it this way.  That 910 set him back at least $300, if he wants to be the only one who hits it thats perfectly fine.  As I said, if it were me I'd let him hit it, but that just me; he can do whatever he wants and I'm good with it.

It's selfish to ask.

It depends . I kinda pissed if the person does not take good care if my clubs , like thumping the driver in the ground and which might put a dent on the bottom of my driver . I let my friend try my new 91D2 with the shaft since he is planning to get one too. He did what I just mentioned but luckily nothing happens. I did let some one used my set last time , and the guy actually dent my wedge and 6 iron . Really pissed !

Sounds like a real tool!

I'm thinking I would have asked to borrow his driver for a similar practice swing .

When I sit it, it never seems like a problem to let someone use my clubs.

But when it comes down to it... I don't like to do it.  I let people use them, but I don't like it.

LOLOL!! That's (for lack of the ability to type a more accurate term) "messed" up!

I'd like to see that played out on SNL.

The only club that's ever at issue for me is an unblemished (usually new) driver.  I fully expect that my irons are going to get beat up pretty quickly through regular use.  Same with hybrids or wedges.

I guess I want to revise my earlier response...if this were my bag..

...Driver: Walter Hagen (Cheapy)

Irons: Powerbilt TPS (Circa 1987)Wedges:

Titlest VokeyPutter:

Bullseye and some Dunlop POS

Ball: Whatever I find (Usually Pinnacles because I shot a 73 with one)

I would let anyone hit them no questions asked.

Haha, nice!

But honestly, if I had a very expensive set, I would have no problem letting someone take a few swings.  The course is the best place to take a swing with a new club.  Get a feel for how they hit.

BTW, it's not the cost of the clubs, but how they are used!!  I shoot very well with my old clubs because they feel great to me.  A $2000 set would be no better for me.  And it may turn me into a jerk that wouldn't let another take a swing with them!

    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
