Can't hit my new R11 driver.

I purchased the R11 last week after customer fitting at Taylormade performance labs. I have been using my original Burner driver. I have no problems hitting this older club. The newer club in the neutral and standard loft positions I can't hit. Any ideas on what can be done to correct this issue? Any R11 users with the same newbie issue?

Thank you.

I kinda like the white. I didn't think I would at first, but I have had a Burner 2.0 TP in my for a week now with no complaints. I am still getting use to the color, but it's growing on me for sure.

HI

I was on the Standard Burner 9.5 with a stiff shaft which a bought new last year.

Yesterday after long consideration I went for a fitting with Taylormade on the R11 TP.

On the computer I was carrying 240 m with a ball speed of 140mph and launch angle of 19 and spin of 4000 rpm average (they had me hit loads of balls !) with the current club.

On the new R11 TP I started with 235m 140mph angle of 12 and 3000 rpm.

To cut a long story short I ended up after a few hours of messing around with an average of 295m carry ball speed of 153mph and launch angle of 12 and spin of 3200 rpm.

I think it depends on fitting. If I had of compared the two side by side with out hours of playing with the club I would of said it was not any better than my burner.

Coincidentally that's just one of the reasons why this club would never make it into my bag.

The fact that you're saying you ended up with an average carry of over 320 yards let's me know this is complete nonsense...

I would ask you to elaborate on your answer. According to the PGA there are over 446 players this year with an average drive distance of over 320 yds carry and that is just players in comps where it is recorded it doesnt take into account club pros, teaching pros, amatures or good club players. And that is just  a

Why did you buy a new driver that you can't hit? If I went to a fitting event, tried a club and couldn't hit it as well as my existing club, I wouldn't be coughing-up cash for it...

Or was it that you wanted to buy the latest tech to make your friends go "ooohhh" and now you need to figure out how to use it?

No...here is the top five on the PGA Tour and nobody even comes close to averaging 320 yards let alone 320 yards of carry.

J.B. Holmes 311.7

Bubba Watson 310.7

Dustin Johnson 310.0

Chris Baryla 309.0

Angel Cabrera 303.1

Would you be so kind to show everyone this link?

Also, the fact that your driving distance increased by 75 yards in one club fitting is complete nonsense as well. You might pick up 20, maybe 30 yards from a proper clubfitting.
But going up by 75 yards to a carry of 320 yards AVERAGE, which is something not even Bubba Watson can average, is never going to happen.
If JB Holmes, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson (thanks Wet Doggg) are 10 yards from a total distance of 320 yards, how in the world do you carry it 10 yards past them?

Obviously that machine was meant to sell the new R11 drivers. However if true, A 27% imrpovement in distance in fitting sounds great where can I sign up?

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
