Golf Town had the X-Tour forged wedges on sale last week. If I was in the market for "new" wedges, I'd have picked up a 54 and either a 58 or 60.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

Im a big fan of Mizuno's wedges.  They are as good as any wedges on the market and IMO they have more feel than most wedges because they are forged.  Theres definetly nothing wrong with Vokeys or Clevelands though!

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

The problem is almost everything is good out there.

I normally go to a couple of lines in OEM who are known for wedges:

* Mizuno MP T11 is a nice wedge, available to lefties in 52, 56, 60. Forged, nice grinds, Spinner Shaft, and they spin well. I used a 60-08 and it was accurate and would stop dead.

*Vokey the SM4 is a nice wedge - head is slightly larger this year, and I like the head slightly better than the Mizuno  -- each loft is available in 3 different bounces. You must go to vokey.com or titleist to see lefty availability.

Cleveland -- well, Roger Cleveland left 15 years ago, and is at Callaway...

Callaway - they make nice, spinning wedges - Roger has gone to lots of bounce with grinds to reduce effective bounce. He also has a new wedge line coming out that looks very attractive. Look for that one if you're not in a hurry.

Scratch - liked them a few years after they started, but that head size is small...

I'd say Bridgestone J40 wedges because I love that grind, but don't know if they go lefty; and they come in Spinner.

I like the first two mentioned at the moment; and B'Stone if they come in lefty.

Good luck.

RichWW2 ,

Being you're a lefty, if you walk into the right golf shop you'll be in great shape. In two shops I visited this week, about half their older model never-been-hit wedges are left-handed.

The Cleveland CG14s have some new-groove models which came out last year - they have black instead of gold gel inserts. You can get them for $89 each.

Tom Watson wedges (from Adams) come in 52, 56 and 60 - medium bounce - and can be had for $29 each.

Callaway Jaws (old grooves) are going at two for $120 at Sports Authority.

Go shopping this weekend if you can. Lots of wedges remain in the lefty racks.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Dear oh dear.....

How many times are we going to read that forged has more "feel"?

It is a total myth.

You're forgetting though, he's talking about Mizunos, they're Grain-Flow forged, for maximum forgification.

***UPDATE***
Through lack of funding and other expenses, I couldn't afford new wedges...till now. :-)

Ended up going with the Nike VR V-rev Cast Black-satin wedges. I really liked the Nike VR Pro wedges, but justify the $240 to get two clubs when my whole fitted iron set cost that much.  So I went with the older model.  They felt the same to me as the forged ones but were half the price.  Tried a bunch of other brands, but for the price these seemed like the way to go.  Ordered them at golfsmith and got them custom fitted (+1", +2 deg upright) and shipped for free at $69 a club.  I probably could've saved up to get the VR pro wedges, but with springtime and my birthday coming up I didn't want to wait.

Got a 52 and a 56 deg. I really like the black club head.  Hopefully they will still look similar after a few uses.  Can't wait to try them out.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

Alas in Europe the spinner shaft is not default on Mizzie wedges. Something about wet weather rusting the inside and them making a ringing noise on the follow-through. Normal DG Wedge Flex is nice though.

I played with my R12's today and all I can can is wow. I feel so much more consistent with them and the sound at impact is solid but soft. Well and truly in love with them.

    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
    • If you've only had to adjust retroactively one time in 8 years and have around 5 people each year without handicaps, that's like 40-50 people total so it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job. I think your questions give enough to go off of. This might be a good way to get new people to actually post a few scores during the 6 weeks leading into the first event. Something like "New members will be eligible for tournament money once they have at least 3 posted rounds in GHIN" or something like that. If they can get 3 rounds in prior to their first event, then they're eligible. If not, they'll soon become eligible after an event or two assuming they play a little bit outside of events.
    • This is a loooooong winded narrative so if you don't like long stories, move on. 😉 Our senior club typically gets about 25 new members each year. We lose about 25 members each year for various reasons (moved to FL/AZ, disabled, dead, too expensive). Of the new members, usually 20 have an active GHIN handicap. About 5 each year do not have a GHIN handicap. When they join our club, we give each member a state association membership that includes GHIN handicapping services. We play a series of handicapped tournaments over the summer. When we sign up a new member who does not have a GHIN handicap, we attempt to give them an estimated index until they have sufficient scores posted to have an actual GHIN index.  Our first event typically is around May 15 so, in theory, a new member has about 6 weeks to post a few scores. Posting season in the Mitten starts April 1. Inevitably, several of the unhandicapped individuals seem  to either not play until the first tournament or can't figure out how to enter scores (hey, they are seniors). That situation then leads to my contacting the new member and asking a series of questions: a. Did you ever have a GHIN handicap? If yes, which State and do you recall what it was? b. Do you have an alternate handicap through a non-GHIN handicap service or a league? c. What do you think your average score was last year (for 9 or 18) d. What was your best score last year? Where did you play and which tee was used? e. What do you consider a very good score for yourself? Based on their responses I attempt to give them an index that makes them competitive in the first couple events BUT does not allow them to win their flight in the first couple events. We don't want the new members to finish last and at the same time, we don't want someone with a "20" playing handicap to win the third flight with a net 57. In the event some new member did shoot a net 57, we also advise everyone that we can and will adjust handicaps retroactively when it is clear to us that a member's handicap does not accurately reflect their potential. We don't like to adjust things retroactively and in the 8 years I have chaired the Handicap Committee, we have only done it once. So here are the questions to the mob: Any ideas how to do this better? Any questions one might ask an unhandicapped individual to better estimate their index/handicap? Would it be reasonable to have a new player play once (or more?) without being eligible to place in the money?
